Last year, we got a sizable number of new albums from our pop-girl favorites. In 2025 alone, we got new music from some of the best female pop artists including Sabrina Carpenter, Audrey Hobert, Addison Rae, PinkPantheress, FKA Twigs, and even Lady Gaga. So far, 2026 hasn’t seen the same abundance. However, following her announcement on April 2nd, we now have none other than Miss Olivia Rodrigo to break that silence with her newly announced and highly anticipated album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

Almost three years ago, on September 8, 2023, Rodrigo released her album GUTS which was received extremely well among fans and carried a year and a half long tour spanning from February 2024 to September 2025. While the tour kept us all entertained for a while, we have been anticipating the announcement of a new album for a long time.

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love will be Rodrigo’s third studio album, and features a significant change in tone from her last two albums, GUTS and SOUR. As you can see, her other two album names have a consistent four-letter, all uppercase theme, and were sonically more angsty and grunge/rock-forward. For her new album, she explained in an interview for Cosmopolitan that for this album she really wanted to explore writing about feelings of joy and passion, in contrast to her usual writing about anger and sadness. Sticking true to her roots, however, she explained that she wanted to make “love songs that you can cry to.”

The Singles

A week after the announcement of her junior album, she announced the first single, titled “drop dead,” which was released on April 17. As the first glimpse we’ve seen of the album, it is surely promising. Set to bright synths and an upbeat rhythm, the lyrics perfectly encompass those lovely and exciting butterfly feelings of the first stages of a crush. The chorus is especially relatable as she sings “one night I was bored in bed and stalked you on the internet; it’s feminine intuition ‘cause I always had a vision of us standing like this.” We’ve all been there, we all know how it feels, having that vision of the person you’ve lowkey been obsessing over finally coming to fruition. She’s always had a knack for writing the most painfully relatable lyrics, but not often are they as fun and hopeful as these. The music video she released alongside the song also pairs perfectly as she’s pictured running around Versailles in her pajamas in a rush of excitement and lovesickness, referencing the lyric “you’re lookin’ like an angel on the walls of Versailles.”

A few weeks later when she took to the stage on SNL as both the celebrity and musical guest, she performed “begged,” a heartbreaking ballad and complete one-eighty from the first single. Although it has not been released on any streaming platform yet, it is assumed to be a part of the upcoming album, showing us a completely different side to it. In this song, she sings about staying with someone despite having to beg for what she wants because it’s “a virtue to not let good love slip away.” This song shares the same tone as some of her previous songs, like “scared of my guitar” off of her sophomore deluxe album GUTS (spilled), and “enough for you” off of her debut album SOUR, and brings into question whether the new album will be entirely about love and passion or have a more sad undertone throughout.

The Tour

With the rollout of her new album, of course there is a tour to accompany it all. The “Unraveled Tour” will start on September 25th in Hartford, CT, and travel all over North America and Europe through May of 2027. When tickets went on presale on May 5th and general sale on May 7th, ticket prices sparked some backlash, going as high as $800 face value. While many tickets were hundreds of dollars, it is rumored that a limited number of $20 “Silver Star” tickets will be released that include a seating location that is only revealed once you get there.

Personally, I took to Ticketmaster on May 7th to try and get a pair of tickets for me and my sister. Let me just say, it was not a fun time. Starting number 6000 in the queue, I had a sliver of hope that I had a chance. However once I got in, the least expensive ticket was a whopping $400. Safe to say I won’t be there unless I get my hands on some of those Silver Star tickets (fingers crossed!). Hearing the experiences of others, it was similar, having slim options left and prices that don’t fit with a college student budget. For those who did get tickets, I can’t wait to see all your cute outfits and concert videos in the fall!

Until June 12th, I’ll be streaming “drop dead” and “begged” and manifesting some of those $20 tickets. And, with the release lining up perfectly with the end of spring quarter, I can’t wait to listen to you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love all summer long!
