Who wants to play Trivia Crack when you could go to the real thing? There’s nothing like gathering a group of friends to hit the town’s most heated trivia competition. Luckily, our beloved San Luis Obispo is one of the best trivia towns around. Listed by the host venue, here are my top 5 recurring trivia events in SLO:
- Krobar Distillery
Hosted every Wednesday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm with Larry Peña from Brainstew Trivia, Krobar Distillery’s trivia night is hands-down my favorite in town. Before the iconic Bang the Drum Brewery closed down, I was a regular at Larry Peña’s Wednesday night trivia there. You can have a team of up to 6 people (but you should have at least a few team members arrive early to secure your spot). Larry’s game method is extremely unique, and it is absolutely the most exciting trivia I have ever played. But study up – he asks some pretty difficult questions!
- Sally Loo’s Trivia
Full disclosure: I am not completely sure if this trivia night is going on. I haven’t been able to attend in a while due to class schedule conflicts. However, this wonderful, family-feel trivia night is hosted the 2nd Thursday of every month from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. You can play on a team from 2 to 4 people. They serve delicious burgers and milkshakes during the game, and the winning prize is always a giant housemade baked good! This was the first trivia night I ever attended in SLO, so it has a special place in my heart.
- Milestone Tavern
Milestone Tavern’s trivia night, which occurs every Tuesday starting at 8:30pm, is a fantastic pick if you want to ensure that you will get a seat. The benefit of going to trivia at Milestone is that you are able to call ahead to reserve a spot. You can form a team of up to 6-8 people (it has occasionally changed over the years). Not to mention, Milestone’s grub is absolutely delicious and fairly priced.
- Bottlecraft (in the SLO Public Market)
Although I have not gotten the chance to participate in Bottlecraft’s weekly Thursday night trivia from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, I have walked by during the event and the downstairs seating at the Public Market was absolutely packed! Bottlecraft tracks the weekly winners through King Trivia (an online platform that keeps score of live trivia events). This trivia night is a perfect one to go to if you have a set group of friends that you like to consistently compete with.Â
- Benny’s Pizza Palace and Social Club Drag Trivia
Benny’s Pizza Palace trivia night is most definitely the stand-out event on this list. Benny’s trivia night takes place every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm. Drag queen Pandora Mystere hosts every time. I’ve been dying to try their Detroit style pizza – which I have heard dozens of SLOcals praise – so this one-of-a-kind trivia night sounds like a blast.
