A Gift Guide For Your Environmentally-Conscious Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

With the holidays just around the corner, you may be in the process of checking people off your shopping list. If you’re buying for your environmentally-conscious friend, look no further! Being eco-friendly is very important, and some key traits to look for are products that are reusable, cruelty-free, or zero-waste. We’ve compiled a list of six amazing gifts to please both your friend and the planet.

Something Thrifted

One way we can be more sustainable is by buying already-used clothing. Chances are there’s a local thrift shop you can check out for some incredible finds! Thrift Store Listings can help you find a location near you. If you’re in SLO, a nearby favorite is Fred & Betty’s!

Decomposition Book

For your friend who loves to journal, consider a Decomposition Book! These notebooks are made sustainably using post-consumer-waste recycled paper and soy ink. You can find them at most bookstores, Target or Amazon, or on their official website.

Reusable Straws

Reusable straws have been all the rage for a few years now, but most are slim straws intended for fully-liquid drinks. CAMPFY sells thicker straws made of either bamboo or metal that are perfect for smoothies or boba! Straws are durable, dishwasher-safe, and of course reusable.

Coconut Bowls

You may have seen these reusable coconut bowls in viral TikTok acai bowl videos, but they can make wonderful serving bowls for any sustainable foodie! Their bowls are all-natural and “contain zero synthetic materials and are 100% free of parabens or plastics.”

Vegan Skincare Tools

For the beauty guru, try EcoTools! You can find everything from makeup brushes to jade rollers, and all of their products are completely cruelty-free. They also use recycled plastic and aluminum, and their paper labels can be planted to grow wildflowers.

Tote / Shopping Bag

A simple and eco-friendly bag is perfect for shopping or could even replace traditional present wrapping as your gift bag to reduce paper waste. This product is made by Eco Bags and is made from 100% recycled cotton.

Hopefully this list could help you out with your holiday shopping! Go green this season!
