Am I crazy for saying that recent rom-coms and romance shows have been lacking lately? Seriously… where’s the yearning?

In the absence of captivating, slow-burning romances, Bridgerton season 4 delivers exactly what fans have been wanting. Part 2 of the season was released on Feb. 26, 2026, ultimately concluding Benedict and Sophie’s love story.

I’ve been watching Bridgerton since it was first released on Netflix, when we were all stuck at home during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series instantly pulled me in with its stunning visuals, immersing me in a world I previously knew nothing about. Even better, what makes this show especially enjoyable is how each season highlights a different character’s love story.

For the second-eldest Bridgerton son, season 4 highlights Benedict’s relationship with Sophie, which follows the forbidden love trope. Benedict comes from nobility, and Sophie works as a maid. This season is so special because of how emotionally charged their dynamic feels; every scene between the two feels intense and vulnerable. What’s more, Benedict Bridgerton is the perfect lead for this love story. He has always differed from his siblings, often feeling distant and as though he doesn’t belong in “that world.” Sophie, on the other hand, has always been drawn to the glamour of nobility, making their connection all the more riveting. Both characters want something out of reach.

Their romance doesn’t feel rushed. Instead, tension is built through longing stares and a genuine connection that the audience can’t deny. The slow-burn pacing is exactly what makes their story so enjoyable. In a time when so many on-screen romances feel rushed, Benedict and Sophie’s relationship shows that emotional depth and anticipation are what make a love story truly unforgettable.

If Bridgerton season 4 proves anything, it’s that yearning works, and it’s exactly what viewers want to see. I wish you could’ve seen how many times I rewound certain scenes. There were moments when I was screaming at my screen, seriously questioning Benedict’s choices, and other times when I was swooning so hard I couldn’t help but get all giggly. Needless to say, I was definitely kicking my feet. This season delivers the kind of romance that feels impossible not to obsess over. If you’re like me, you’ll be talking about it nonstop and recommending it to every single one of your friends. I even got my roommate to watch it, and she’s not usually big on romantic movies, but guess what? She loved it. I think many creatives will take note of this season, which has received so much praise, and if this is the future of Bridgerton, I’ll gladly keep watching.
