Fall is sometimes a season to stay indoors, but this fall we think you should go and try out some fun fall events happening around San Luis Obispo.

1. Big Sur Food and Wine Festival (November 1 -4)

Big Sur is a popular spot for Cal Poly students to visit, and with this annual festival, there’s even more reason to visit this fall. Try new foods and wines while enjoying the unique scenery the area has to offer. Local and out of town restaurants and wineries will be serving meals and samples at unique spots in Big Sur. Plus, all proceeds from the event will go towards educational programs in the area.

2. Cayucos Classic Car Show (November 3)

Within twenty minutes, you’ll reach this annual tradition. Not only can you enjoy seeing some impressive and classic cars, but also check out the Beer Garden and BBQ while walking along the beach.

3. Santa Barbara Zoo Pumpkin Smash (November 22)

If you’re staying in San Luis Obispo for Thanksgiving break and you’re looking for something to do on Thanksgiving day, you might want to make a trip down to the Santa Barbara Zoo. Watch as various animals, like elephants and gorillas, play with pumpkins, symbolizing the transition from Halloween to the holiday season.

4. Fruit picking

Whether you’re hoping to make a fall treat like apple pie or you’re just hoping to bring home some fresh fruit, try out fruit picking this fall. Places like SLO Creek Farms let visitors pick fruit themselves while enjoying the beautiful atmosphere.

5. Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove (through February)

Each year, thousands of monarch butterflies make their way to Pismo Beach, grouping together on the Eucalyptus trees. Get a group of friends together and spend a Saturday admiring the butterflies, while staying local.

6. Gobble Wobble (November 24)

For those looking to get active, the Gobble Wobble 5K Fun Run will take place at Laguna Lake Golf Course. The event benefits the SLO Food Bank, while providing a way to join the community in an energetic event.

7. Cambria Christmas Market (November 23-December 23)

If you can’t wait any longer to get into the holiday spirit, get started at the Cambria Christmas Market. Admire the spectacular Christmas light displays while drinking hot chocolate and eating some food from local vendors.

We hope this list inspires you to check out all the fun events SLO offers during the fall.
