6 Things You’ll Miss About SLO if You’re a Graduating Senior

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Graduating college and going out into the adult world is scary enough. But us Cal Poly grads have a lot of extra things we’ll be missing when we leave SLO. Here are six things all seniors will miss the most:

1. The friends we’ve made

The people we’ve befriended helped form some of our greatest college memories. Cal Poly is full of some of the most genuine and down to earth people that we have been lucky to have as friends. Some of these friends we met because they lived across the hall from us in the dorms and some we found spring quarter senior year, but regardless, they will each be missed.

2. Familiarity

San Luis Obispo really starts to feel like home after four years. You know campus like the back of your hand and know exactly what times to avoid the library or the UU. Downtown shopping and the bars become all too consistent in your weekend schedule. There is always comfort in familiarity.

3. Classes

Okay, hear us out on this one. Studying is arduous, but for the most part, it’s one of the few big responsibilities we have during college. We are here to learn and have the luxury of really focusing on building our careers and ourselves during college before life starts to get even busier.

4. Views

We’ve all taken at least 2.6 million sunset pictures while living in SLO. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful views of the sun setting or rising from Bishop Peak, Madonna Mountain and many more!

5. Farmer’s Market

The smell of tri-tip and kettle corn on Thursday evenings is something people come from all over the county to enjoy. From going as a WoWie to going as a senior, it will always have its charm.

6. The sense of community

SLO prides itself on being a college town, and it’s no joke. Wherever you go in town you’ll usually see people you know. Even if you don’t know them, it’s not unusual to get a friendly hello from a stranger.

This town has provided one of the greatest environments to grow and learn as a college student. So although there’s lot to miss about San Luis Obispo, keep in mind how much our time here has prepared us to tackle the next big step in our lives!

Vini is a fourth year Biology Major with a Psych Minor at Cal Poly SLO. She hopes to work in the field of Public Health or Health Care Administration one day. Standing tall at 5'1, you can often find her shopping for cute heels online or talking nonstop to anyone she meets. When she's not cooped up at the library studying for Bio, she's out with friends (usually eating) or trying her hardest to be more outdoorsy even though she considers herself more of an "indoorsy" type. If you ever need help with what outfit to wear or need a good laugh, Vini's the person to talk to!
