5 Spooky Sounds You Only Notice in October

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Living in SLO means you’re most likely living in an older house or apartment built in the 70s or 80s. This isn’t a problem because everything works as it should and we love our homes in SLO, that is, until October comes around. It is almost as if our houses are haunted! Here are 5 spooky sounds you only notice during the month of October.

Creeking Doors

In October, the doors in your house start to creek when you open them and sometimes even when no one is touching them.

Blinds Banging on the Windowpane

In October, the blinds bang against the windowpane and nearly scare us half to death but every other month of the year they sit peacefully.

Flickering Lights

In October, the lights flicker at night even when you put in a brand new bulb.

Refrigerator Growling

In October, the refrigerator growls especially in the middle of the night when you get up to get water.

Rustling in the Closet

In October, that one closet in the hallway starts to have rustling sounds coming from it no matter how many times you convince yourself it’s all in your head.

We are convinced that these spooky sounds are only heard during October. Is it just the old houses in SLO, or is it spooky season? Let us know what you think or if your house has all of a sudden become spooky!
