December is finally here in SLO, and that means the smell of hot cocoa, the sight of warm Christmas lights and the taste of gingerbread are all around. Looking for some fun activities to do with your significant other or even friends? Well, look no further because I’m going to give you five date ideas for this holiday season.

1. Cambria Christmas Market

From Nov. 28 to Dec. 3, there will be a festive outdoor holiday event in Cambria displaying over three million Christmas lights. The event is also a German-inspired vendor market with around 48 vendors! Make sure to stop by if you want a visit from Santa, train rides and live music.

2. Light Display at Shoreline Inn

Named as one of the best places to see Christmas lights in SLO County in 2023, the Shoreline Inn has over 25,000 lights that transform the inn into a beachy Christmas display. The display is free to visit nightly from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., running from Nov. 27 to Jan. 6. Experience a seaside winter wonderland here!

3. Nature Lights- SLO Botanical Garden

For a limited time, the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden is offering a journey through illuminated gardens. Starting Nov. 26 to Dec. 27, there will be two stages with live music, pop-ups with local chefs and a variety of drinks. The entry fee is $22 for members and $28 for non-members. This is a perfect holiday event for friends and families!

4. Morro Bay Lighted Parade

Morro Bay will be holding a lighted boat parade put on by the fishing, leisure and yachting community. It’s a free admission event, but arriving early is advised as there will be limited parking spots. This event is scheduled on Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m., depending on weather conditions. If the event is canceled, there will be no rescheduled date. Enjoy a dinner along the Embarcadero, along with a view of the parade!

5. Christmas Candy Making

While this is one of the pricier events, you can learn how to make classic treats for the holiday season. Grandma Ingrid offers a hands-on candy-making experience along with a recipe book to bring home containing all the candies made in class! The fee is $90 for a three-hour class that you could take with a friend or your partner!

No matter what activity you choose, SLO has plenty of ways to make your holiday season feel magical!
