10 Selfies You’ve Taken in SLO

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

It was only two years ago that the word “selfie” made its debut in the dictionary. Whether WOWies or avid adventure-seekers, students equipped with that notorious long robotic arm holding their iPhones from afar is a more common sight than ever. Here in San Luis Obispo, there are countless places to snap moments of a Cal Poly student’s experience. We’ve gathered the top ten picture perfect spots in SLO.

1. At the top of Bishop’s Peak

You’re on top of the world, hey! Shout out to the universe that you’ve conquered the tallest peak in SLO. This selfie makes the 4:00 am wake-up well worth the climb. As Hannah Montana once taught us, “it’s all about the climb” and capturing this triumphant moment is an essential part of the Cal Poly student’s experience.

2. With an ear of corn at Farmers’ Market

It’s the first thing you smell when you walk into the barbecue section of the market: the butter and the char from the fire as it roasts the corn. Let’s be real, you can’t go wrong with Parmesan cheese, garlic salt, cayenne pepper and butter. Few things beat the corn at Farmers’, and few other things will beat the selfies you’ll capture while enjoying it.

3. After making it up to “The P”

One of the first hikes you will probably embark on as a Cal Poly student, the P is a great opportunity to commemorate your introduction to the gorgeous views SLO has to offer.

4. With a cow

Going to an agricultural school has its perks. Other campuses have birds and squirrels; we have cattle. Just call us Cow Poly.

5. At SLO Donut Co.

Whether it is a casual late night run-in or an all-nighter, any visit to SLO Do Co is worthy of a selfie. Nearly a mile’s walk from the main center of campus, this 24/7 donut-provider is the place to show your love for the “hole-some” treats.

6. With an acai bowl

What is better than a bowl of mixed berries and being in good company? Nothing! At the end of a long week, take a breath and go out for acai bowls with your roommates! Two Mustang favorites include Bowl’d downtown and Kravabowl at Avila Beach. A selfie for this moment only makes the berry good times last longer.

7. In the bubble gum alley

Home to the chewed gum of many tourists and Cal Poly students, Bubble Gum alley is a sight you can’t leave without taking a selfie. You don’t want to be stuck here for too long though.

8. At Serenity Swing

You made it! Did you get lost on the way? Did you fall on the way up? Capture your defeat of those hills at the top with a selfie!

9. During the Mustang Mile

The Mustang Mile is a race that brings the Mustang community together to run. Celebrate spirit by dressing up in green and gold and enjoy the run around campus with friends. Snap a selfie as soon as you cross the finish line to toast your victory.

10. In the bathroom at the Madonna Inn

Two words: pink overload. Furnished with a vanity, velvet seats and covered in pink wallpaper, how could one not take a selfie in a bathroom as luxurious as this? Let’s be honest, we all want this bathroom.

Of course there are countless other activities to capture in SLO, but before you leave Cal Poly, be sure to snap these ten must-have selfies! Happy adventuring!
