We are almost one month into the New Year. “Hello, 2016! Please treat us well!” is what we all say – praying, wishing, and hoping the year is filled with amazing friends, family, and long-lasting memories. A new year gives us the opportunity to continue to discover ourselves, try new things, and of course gain more knowledge as we finish semester after semester at school. We should be proud of ourselves for everything we have accomplished in 2015. Look at how far we have made it! Nothing makes the New Year more exciting than reaching new heights and setting goals or resolutions. There seems to be a little controversy over making New Year’s resolutions because there are so many things we want to do or work on, but we find ourselves simply lacking the motivation to actually achieve our goals. Here are some tips to see those resolutions in action and to keep that motivation going!

1. The first and most important tip is that it is all up to you. That’s right, YOU! You are the only one that has the ability to push yourself to get what you want done. You understand that deep down, if you really want it, you’ll do whatever it takes to cross that resolution off of your list.

2. Set a few smaller goals that you know can be accomplished and then slowly work your way up to incorporating larger goals into your life. Remember to be realistic as well as specific!

3. Try not to move onto another goal until you have finished the one you are currently working on.

4. Create little reminders for yourself to keep going and to not give up! If your resolution is to smile more, put little sticky notes around your home that say “smile!” Also, you can create a plan that covers how you will work to reach your goal.

5. Talk about your goals with friends and family. They will more than likely be there to support you and motivate you when you need it!

6. Do not forget to reward yourself from time to time. Celebrate your successes with activities and people that make you happy. Do something that doesn’t go against your resolution.

7. Work on each resolution so it becomes a habit. Soon enough, it will become a part of you and you will feel great!

If you have heard these tips before and still think resolutions are not worth it, take a look at this again and really let it resonate within you. Resolutions are completely possible to achieve, and imagine how much greater the New Year and life in general will be for you once you have achieved something you have been striving toward! You are your biggest motivator and if you know you can do it, the job will get done. Happy 2016!
