Simply Regal: Soft and Sexy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

Happy Valentine’s Day! This look is something soft and sexy for any date night. It’s very loose and voluminous waves with a deep side part!  I use a technique to mimic the look of a larger iron, as well as create more volume.  Enjoy!

Tools you will need: hairbrush, 1 inch curling iron, mousse, heat protectant, hairspray, a teasing brush, and pin curl clips.

1.     Start by spraying the hair with heat protectant. Then apply a mousse to the roots for more volume. Brush the hair out and create a deep side part.

2.     Section off the bottom third of the hair. Take a large section (about 1.5 inches large) and curl it with a one-inch curling iron. Let the curl drop and wrap it around 2 or 3 fingers to create a very large standing pin cur. Pin to the head. Curl direction does not matter in this set.

3.     Continue this along the section and then section off another section of hair. It should be about half of the remaining hair.

4.     Repeat step 2 on this section of hair.

5.     Take down the final section. Curl the hair again, making sure to work around your deep center part.

6.     Let the hair cool for as long as possible. I let Emily’s hair cool for about 15 minutes.

7.     When the hair has cooled, take down the bottom 2 sections and leave the curls alone. As you take down the top section, take down one curl at a time. Use a teasing brush to tease the hair at the roots, as much or as little as you like. When all the teasing is done, use the very edge of the teasing brush to comb along the top of the teased hair to hide the ratting and blend the sections together.

8.     I then brushed my hands through all the hair to meld the sections. I used my teasing brush to smooth it again and harness the wave.

9.     To finish, add hairspray.

And that’s it!
