Your New Go-To Stress Reliever: Grammarly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

It’s that time again. The dreaded love-hate relationship with the end of the semester.

You love it because those 16-odd sleepless weeks are finally almost behind you. You hate it because, for whatever reason, the last month of school unofficially means professors assigning a pile of extra assignments.

You always seem to know when a professor is going to assign more work because they always start off by saying, “I know it’s the end of the semester, but..”

When you hear those words, you sink further into your seat, roll your eyes and pull out your planner. No matter how much you’ve been able to coast up to this point, the last few weeks are do or die.

Although there is no way to completely alleviate the stress that accompanies the end of the semester, I do have a trick that can help ease the stress.

Writing papers takes a long enough time in itself. Add in the time it takes to proofread, edit and then re-edit, you’re looking at about another hour to however long it’s already taken to write.

What if I told you there is a completely free spell-check-on-steroids type program that exists?

I thought this had to be too good to be true. I figured the website would give you a free week-long trial before having to pay. Refreshingly enough, this is not true.

When first signing up for Grammarly, you have two options: register with the free membership, or one of their many premium memberships. The free membership includes spell checking, grammatical issues, word choice, contextual issues and even clarity issues.

If you choose to upgrade to the premium membership, you can pay month to month for $29.95 a month, $59.95 for four months or $139.95 for a year. The added benefits of going premium include added spelling and grammatical issues, checks with sentence structure and even customizing your search to look for particular issues.

Choosing either of the two memberships offer outstanding service. Personally being a lover of writing and even editing, this website is a godsend. Each issue that is detected teaches you more and more how to perfect your writing. Especially this time in the semester, I recommend any person who has multiple papers to write in the upcoming weeks to give this a try.

It’s simple to get started! Go to Grammarly’s website, add your name and email address, choose your membership and download it to your browser. It will work on any web-based site. Gone are the days of papers being returned with red pen covering the page.

Try Grammarly on your next paper. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I'm a huge lover of writing! As long as I can remember I've been writing. Through lived experiences and my writing I hope to make an impact on the world.
