Starting Something New

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

One of the newest activities to be offered at Cabrini is the women’s crew team. Freshman social work major Sydnie McDonald knows all about that, being one of the members of the newly-formed team, which will start competing in the spring.

“Crew has always been a big part of my family. When I found out that Cabrini was going to have a crew team, I emailed the coach,” she said.

The crew coach, Janit Gorka, showed her around the boat house and asked her to make a decision about joining the team, but she says it was an easy one. She missed the team aspect that she had when she participated on a crew team in grade school. She hopes that being a part of a sports team will allow her to have a good bonding experience.

Outside of athletics, she has also recently become involved with CAP Board, where she is an assistant programmer, helping the board and executive members plan and execute events. She says she likes being creative and planning events, and is a “Pinterest person,” so CAP Board is a good fit for her.

Some other activities that she is involved in are Campus Ministry and Stage Crew. She says that she is very busy but likes being busy and keeping involved on campus. She also likes the fact that staying involved on campus allows her to meet and befriend new people who she would not have come into contact with otherwise.

“[I’d] always been busy throughout my high school so being involved in college is not really that hard for me and I like being a part of something,” she said.

Erica is a senior at Cabrini College, majoring in communication with a minor in Spanish and is a Campus Correspondent of Her Campus' Cabrini chapter. She loves writing and hopes to make a career of it one day. Despite being a commuter, you can most often find her in her second home: the newsroom. In her free time, you can find her catching up on the latest episode of "Pretty Little Liars" or "The Bachelor," writing about trending and entertainment topics, as well as obsessing over the latest news from Imagine Dragons.
