I Tried Cosmopolitan’s Super-Easy Hairstyles for Lazy Girls And Here’s How It Went

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

If you’re anything like me, trying to figure out what to do with my hair is the last thing on my mind in the morning. I continue hitting the snooze button until I have that ‘oh fudge’ moment when I realize I need to leave for class in little to no time. Running around trying to find an acceptable outfit that hasn’t already been worn this week and printing that last-minute assignment may leave only a minute or two to worry about hair. Most of the time, it ends up in a quick ponytail or messy bun while running out of my room.

To try and fix this problem, I tried some of Cosmopolitan’s Super-Easy Hairstyles for Lazy Girls. Here’s how it went.

The first hairstyle I tried was the flower braid. This hairstyle is a great way to upgrade the basic half-up/half-down hairstyle. It does take a little practice to perfect this hairstyle. Other than that, it’s fairly simple.

The flower braid is a great upgrade for the traditional half-up/half-down hairstyle.

Gather the hair like you would for the regular half-up/half-down hairstyle and tie off. Braid the tied-off section of hair and tie off again at the bottom. To create the drama, pull the braid apart to add more volume. This is where, for me, it got tricky. I have LOTS of layers in my hair. If I pulled too, much my hair would start falling out of the braid and I’d have to start over again. So for anyone like me with lots of layers, just be mindful of that. Once the braid is volumized, twist around in a bun and pin against head. Voila, you’ve just upgraded your hairstyle from basic to ornate.

I felt more confident throughout the day with this hairstyle. I even received a few compliments. Time wise, this hairstyle takes anywhere from five to 10 minutes depending on how quickly you can section your hair, braid it, twist and pin it. This hairstyle is great for anyone who’s looking just to embellish an already easy hairstyle.

The second hairstyle I tried ended up being the “easiest curls ever.” This was the biggest fail of a hairstyle I tried. It sounds simple enough; put hair in a ponytail, split hair in half, wrap hair around curling iron, repeat on other section and remove hair from the ponytail.

Only a little curl for thicker hair.

I thought this would be great considering many hairstyles look even better with some loose curls. Let me warn any girl who has thick hair: DO NOT TRY THIS HAIRSTYLE! I ended up splitting my hair in eight, one-inch sections and my hair still wouldn’t curl. Granted, my hair never really was one to curl (it usually takes two to three hours to get some waves in my hair), so why I thought this was the cure-all of curling issues I’m not sure. Needless to say any girls with stubborn or thick hair probably will have a similar outcome: frustration. Hopefully those with finer hair will yield better results.

To switch to a more successful hairstyle, I tried the pretty twisted hairstyle. To be honest, I didn’t really try this hairstyle; this was one I stumbled upon a few years back and fell in love with it. It’s just as quick as throwing your hair into a ponytail. There’s the double benefit, also, of having your hair out of your face while also showing off how long or short your hair is.

A simple hairstyle to change things up.

You just grab a front section of hair on one or both sides, twist and pin.

The best thing about this hairstyle is that you don’t need X-amount of hair to pull it off. As long as you have four bobby pins and a minute, you’re able to use this hairstyle. I highly recommend it. This is always my go-to hairstyle when a ponytail just won’t cut it.

The last hairstyle I tried was a slight upgrade from the pretty twisted hairstyle. I tried the twisted halo hairstyle. This hairstyle has the same premise as the last, the only difference is you continue the twist to the back of your head and tuck the higher twist under the lower one. This just adds a little more fanciness to the back of your head.

This is a quick hairstyle that you can even do on the go.

When I tried this hairstyle, it only added seconds onto the pretty twisted one. It only takes a minute to do. It’s even easy enough to do while walking out the door too! This is one of those hairstyles where no mirror is required, which makes it even better.

Hopefully these hairstyles can help break you out of the ponytail hairstyle shell. All of these hairstyles can be accomplished in little to no time whatsoever. Don’t let trying to catch some extra Zzzz’s prevent you from taking the time to try that confidence-boosting hairstyle.
