5 Stages of Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

It’s the best time of the year for some and just a reason to drink all day for others. As the day winds down we see all types of people struggling to get back to their houses and beds to sleep off the day. St. Patrick’s Day festivities can be extremely fun, especially if you’re with the right people.

1. Waking up and getting ready

This is no ordinary day to get ready. You need to plan your outfit if you haven’t yet already and perfect your festive theme with all the accessories you can find. As you’re getting ready, curling your hair and jamming out to music with your friends, you can’t help but get excited to drink literally all day long with all of your friends.

2. Day drinking begins

The games of flip cup begin and the power hour starts. Whether you are going to a parade or you are going to a bar, day drinking can always get the best of you. You look around and see everyone taking pictures in their green and white outfits.

3. The drunkenness sets in

As the day goes on, you quickly realize you are indeed drunk. Going from bar to bar or hanging out with your friends in their backyard, you realize how there probably is not a sober person for miles. But hey, you have an excuse. It’s St. Patrick’s Day, right?

4. The hunger begins

Drinking all day with your friends can overcome you. As you start your day drinking you really do not think of eating. However, once all that alcohol sets in, so does the hunger. So you begin your next adventure: finding food. This may be difficult depending on how many drinks you’ve had. Depending on where you are, you most likely either order food or walk to the nearest Wawa to create what you think, at the time, is a hoagie masterpiece.

5. The journey home

This can be one of the toughest things you do all night. As you try to stare at your phone long enough to order your Uber home, you quickly realize the day has gotten the best of you. Most likely you stumble into your house and if you are lucky, you make it up the stairs and can’t even think about taking your makeup off.

St. Patrick’s Day can be a fun-filled day celebrating with friends. Don’t get ahead of yourself and know your drink limit. Make sure to stay safe and never walk around alone.

Enjoy the day!
