Where I Lead My Mom Will Follow

Gilmore Girls originally aired in 2000 and it has become a beautiful classic since. For those that don't know, the show follows the story of a mother (Lorelai) and daughter (Rory) that have an amazing bond, which grows even stronger throughout the seven seasons. The show follows Lorelai and Rory’s lives together in a small town called Stars Hollow. It shows Rory as she grows up through high school to college and Lorelai as she learns how to be a mother. Lorelai was definitely not expecting to be a mother at 16 but ended up being one of the best mothers, because she had such an amazing community help her raise Rory and wanted the best for her.

Lorelai raised Rory with the help of the town, which allowed them to build many close connections with people in the town. Since Lorelai was a single mother, she and Rory became extremely close and had an amazing mother/daughter best friend relationship. They definitely didn’t have the perfect relationship, but it was very admirable. It was a relationship that many girls wish they had with their mothers.

I grew up watching the of episodes Gilmore Girls, with my mother, whenever we would catch them on. It has always been one of my favorite shows because it encompasses so much into the storyline. The show shows how relationships and friendships can overcome adversity and come out stronger at the end of a problem. It also teaches many life lessons throughout the seven seasons. The series closely follows Lorelai and Rory's relationship and shows all of the ups and downs and problems that they face.

There are so many scenes throughout the show where I feel like I have been in the same situation and my mother helped me out or been in the same situation with my mother. Lorelai Gilmore reminds me so much of my own mother and watching this show with her I believed strengthened my relationship with her. I know it may seem silly that my mother and I grew closer over a show, but it gave us something to bond over, and it brought up real-life situations that we had been in or were in or may be in. The best part is that while Lorelai and Rory are going through the tough situations, the show gives insight to both sides of the argument or problem, which I believed helped my mother and I see each other's point of view better.

Gilmore Girls gave me a different perspective on mother-daughter relationships and made me realize how important and amazing my mother is, and how much I should value her. It also taught me that there are no relationships that can compare to the relationship between a mother and daughter. My mother and I may not always see eye to eye on things, but I know that no matter what she has my back, and she will be there if I need her.
