Spring Break: Expectations vs Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

All college kids dream of the famous “spring break vacation.” We’ve seen movies depicting a week-long celebration complete with booze, beaches, and a ton of fun. Unfortunately, life isn’t always like the movies. Lavish spring break vacations cost money; something college kids generally lack. Whether you stayed in your college town or headed to your hometown this spring break, it’s probable that your spring break wasn’t the party you imagined it to be. Here’s what you thought your spring break would look like, and what most likely actually happened.

Spring Break!

Expectation:

Reality:

Spring break! Beaches! Spring! Warm weather!

Expectation:

Reality: It’s not spring yet. It’s not even over 40 degrees yet.

Expectation: Play fun drinking games with friends while feeling carefree

Reality: Play a drinking game when you see your midterm grades posted

Promising yourself you’ll get back on track with your diet with the help of mom’s homemade dinners.

Expectation:

Reality:

Finding a spring break fling.

Expectation:

Reality:

Road trip with friends.

Expectation:

Reality: “Hey anyone want to do something? Anything?”

Thinking you’ve got your spring break bod ready.

Expectation:

Reality:

“I’ll work out for real this time… just in time for summer!”

Expectation:

Reality:

Expectations: Your parents’ friends are nostaligic and ask, “Aren’t you supposed to take a spring break beach vacation?”

Reality: Does it look like I can afford a trip to the Bahamas?

But no matter what you did this spring break…

…we hope you enjoyed yourself, relaxed and had a safe spring break vacation!
