After all of the Christmas decorations go down, Valentine’s Day decorations and commercialism are always quick to follow. This can tend to get a little overwhelming for us single women, especially after the holiday season with couples cuddled up everywhere you go, and engagements being announced galore. After all that, now we have to sit back and endure the holiday essentially made for couples. Well, where’s our holiday?! Why do all of these couples get to celebrate their love and companionship, when we get no special day to celebrate ourselves as strong, independent women? Just because we’re single doesn’t mean we can’t have a fabulous Valentine’s Day, and it certainly shouldn’t stop us from celebrating our own happiness and self worth. Here are some ways to have an awesome Valentine’s Day as an independent woman! You go girl!

  • 1. Treat yourself to a Mani-Pedi

Admit it ladies, when you look good, you feel good! And after a stressful week, what could be more relaxing than a nice Mani-Pedi to perk you up? It’s important to splurge on yourself and do things that might not be necessary, simply for the relaxation of it. Treat yourself- you deserve it!

  • 2. Girls Night Out

Have other single girlfriends? Go out to dinner somewhere unconventional that you know couples won’t be flocking to this Valentine’s Day. Sometimes, all a girl needs is the company of her best girl friends to forget about all of life’s little stresses! Get a group of single, sassy, ladies together for a night out, and you’re guaranteed a good time and lots of laughs! Maybe even splurge with a yummy V-day dessert!

  • 3. Going out not for you? Have a girl’s night in!

If you’re not so interested in going out and nightlife, spend a night in with some close friends who also don’t have someone to spend Valentine’s Day with. Find a cool recipe on Pinterest to try out, and maybe even cook dinner for the group if you’re feeling up to it! The perfect Valentine’ s Day might just consist of your favorite candy, good friends, and lots of movies (non-romantic, of course!).

  • 4. Get Away- Mentally or Physically

If you aren’t feeling up to being surrounded by people this Valentine’s Day, do something by yourself instead! Spending time alone can be super helpful to clear your mind and reevaluate yourself. Take a long walk, pick your favorite spot in your town or city to go to, or even take a mini road trip. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a little “me” time! Yoga is also an amazing way to mentally get away; not to mention you can burn some calories in the process. All of these things will leave you feeling refreshed and prepared for any obstacle that may get thrown your way!

  • 5. Do something good

Volunteer at any local charity to help out during the holiday! There are bound to be some fun, Valentine’s Day themed charity events going on, and non-themed organizations are still an excellent way to help out. What better way to spread love, feel good, and know that you’re appreciated than to give back to your community?  You may even meet some new friends in the process!

  • 6. Love yourself

So what, if you don’t have a “special someone” to spend Valentine’s Day with? You’re perfect and fabulous just the way you are. Write down 10 things you love the most about yourself this Valentine’s Day, and mean it. Not having a man doesn’t mean you aren’t loved or special, and just because you haven’t found the right guy doesn’t mean you don’t have lots to offer! Brag on yourself, and keep those 10 things somewhere safe, so that when you do have someone to spend Valentine’s Day with, you’ll remember why they’re choosing to share that day with you!

And just in case you’re feeling courageous and not so full of love….

  • 7. Don’t get mad, get even

Okay, so we all have that one ex whom you hate and wouldn’t mind showing how much you are glad to be rid of. Well, dirtyrottenflowers.com has found a way to display those feelings. This website has various arrangements of flower bouquets that are deranged, decapitated, and downright ugly. Pick any of these bouquets and send them to your ex as a way to express how much they really mean to you now. That’ll show him. HA!
