The Perfect Throwback Song for Your Zodiac Sign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

When “22” by Taylor Swift was on the radio every day, it was a much simpler time. Songs like that defined the best part of our youth — that weird middle school age where we all had bad haircuts and horrible fashion choices. If you ever find yourself missing the days of Silly Bandz and One Direction, here is the perfect throwback anthem for you based on your zodiac sign.

Aries: “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne

Can I make it any more obvious? Like this early 2000’s anthem, you’re feisty and a little bit hardcore. While the lyrics of this song seem spiteful, it’s a tune that we all know and love. You like it when people know who you are, but you aren’t always the center of attention. You can be a tad aggressive, but you always make up for it with your passionate nature. This song is all about confidence, and trust me– you got it!

Taurus: “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira (ft. Wyclef Jean)

Your hips don’t lie, and neither do you. You value honesty, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun too! You’re usually the life of the party, but you keep it lowkey, so your true colors don’t come out until you’re really comfortable. Like the song says, “I never knew she could dance like that.” Not only are you a lot of fun, but you’re also incredibly strong. You don’t let life get to you and you keep it real. Shakira is the perfect 2000s icon for you.

Gemini: “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift

Your biggest strength is your intuition. Unlike Taylor in this song, you don’t get caught up with people who you don’t vibe with. But you can be too open at times. Your vulnerability is a strength, so use it! Sometimes your emotions run deep, and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Like Taylor, you can put your feelings into words better than most.

Cancer: “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars

Your emotions rule your world. Some people think with their heads, but you think with your heart. When you fall, you fall hard. You are observant. You notice the little things about the people you love. This is an amazing quality because your closest friends never doubt how much you care about them. People know you for what’s in your heart. You’re selfless and put other people’s happiness before your own most days. Remember to look after yourself, and you could rule the world.

Leo: “Die Young” by Ke$ha

Everyone knows who you are. You’re bold, you’re proud, and you’re unapologetically you. While you definitely have a soft side, you don’t let it out until you’re comfortable. Sometimes you get too caught up in the moment, but you always know how to bring yourself back down to earth. Living in the moment is a skill you’ve mastered, and your friends love you for it. You can be a little too headstrong at times, which may lead to misunderstandings amongst friends. But just like Ke$ha, you’re the center of attention, and you wouldn’t want it any other way.

Virgo: “Fireflies” by Owl City

You are the most practical and reliable of us all. On the surface, you make informed decisions and weigh all your options. On the inside, though, your head lives in the clouds. You’re a huge dreamer, even though you’ll never admit it. Like Owl City says, “everything is not like it seems.” You don’t trust things right off the bat — your trust has to be earned.

Libra: “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes (ft. Adam Levine)

You wear your heart on your sleeve. You’re strong and independent, but you also have a softer side. And when you fall, you fall hard. “Stereo Hearts” is the perfect throwback song to reflect this! You focus on that one special person, and they, of course, realize how much you care about them. You tend to get yourself into situations that may be a bit more than you can handle, but you make it out okay.

Scorpio: “Oops!…I Did It Again” by Britney Spears

Your zest for life makes you a lot like Britney. You know what you want, and you go for it. Nobody can tell you “no,” and everyone knows it. You may come off as innocent, but secretly, you know exactly what you’re doing in every situation. It’s just like the song — “Oops, you think I’m in love/that I’m sent from above/I’m not that innocent.” You never reveal your true intentions until after you have succeeded. Your carefulness has never steered you wrong!

Sagittarius: “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry

You love the idea of a teenage dream, Sag. You love love and being in love. A dreamy, late-night beach romance is right up your alley. Maybe you have a tendency to throw yourself into your new relationships, but hey, what’s so bad about a little passion? Passionate is the perfect word to describe you, and everyone you’ve ever met will agree.

Capricorn: “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train

You walk tall and stand even taller. You have an air of confidence about you that attracts people. We all want to get to know you, but it takes a lot for you to open up! But when you find someone you can talk to, you don’t let them go. Chances are you’re a firm believer in soulmates (or Soul Sisters), and you’ll know once you find yours. Not everyone can match your fiery, unpredictable energy.

Aquarius: “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj

Aquarius, you are iconic. You have a brand, and people know what it is. You are unapologetic about your personality and your beliefs. You’re confident, and you know your worth. You walk around knowing you’ve got a reputation. Nicki said it best with the lyric, “somebody please tell him who the eff I is,” because everyone should know who you are. Your confidence alone proceeds you!

Pisces: “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz

You’re a ball of energy and fun, Pisces. You love to have a good time, and you never let anything get in the way of that. You’ll throw your hands in the air any day of the week, as long as you have all your work done. You’re more responsible than most, and this usually turns you into the “mom friend.” But hey, who said moms can’t have fun too?
