Want pro tips from someone who considers herself an expert in the beauty and skincare realm, but you don’t want an insane number of useless products? Look no further.

Makeup Remover

I go in first with a cleansing oil to remove my makeup. Cleansing balms and micellar waters are great options, too. I avoid makeup wipes because they’re bad for the environment and sometimes don’t get all of your makeup off!

Cleanser

Now we get into the real skincare routine! Commonly known as “face wash”, it’s important as a beginning step– if you just took off your makeup, it’s the second part of the necessary “double-cleansing,” and if you’re not wearing makeup, it’s good to just wash your face so it’s fresh and ready to absorb the products you’re going to layer on after!

Toner

For most skin types, including sensitive, an alcohol-free toner is a good option for your post-cleansing step. If your skin is on the drier side, a hydrating face mist is a great option as well!

Serum

Depending on your needs, you may want a Vitamin C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid or some other kind, depending on your skin needs. (Be sure to research what kind would be best before just running out to buy one!) After toning, gently press a few drops into your skin and let it absorb.

Eye cream

If you’re wearing makeup, getting older, or just want to take care of your skin, an eye cream is a must in your daily skincare routine! The skin around your eyes is so thin and fragile that it’s never a bad idea to give them a nourishing little daily boost of moisture.

Moisturizer/Night Cream

To seal it all in, invest in a good moisturizer for the final step of your skincare routine. For oily types, a gel-cream consistency may work best; for drier types, you might want to look for a more heavy-duty hydrator. Optional: if you have extra dry skin, or you live in a climate with low humidity, applying a facial oil after the moisturizer eliminates the problem of waking up with thirsty skin!

These steps are my recommendations for an everyday nightly skincare routine! Of course, I spoil myself every now and then by putting on a face mask either before or after cleansing my face, depending on the recommended application instructions. Skin care is self-care, ladies!
