Going into college, I had my best friends from home, at different schools, and my boyfriend at the time, at the same school as me. I knew that no matter what happened that my best friends would have my back and always be there, but what I didn’t know is that I would grow so much as an individual and that I would meet some amazing people that would impact my life in ways that I could not have imagined.

A breakup with my, at the time, boyfriend freshman year pushed me to discover who I was, as an individual, on my own. It put into perspective for me how closed off I had been, how much I had held myself back from making friends, and how I was just living in my comfort zone. This allowed me to decide to join a sorority, which changed my life.

Through my sorority, I have made some fantastic friends that I know will be lifelong friends. I have met so many people from so many different walks of life, but more importantly, I have learned some much from each and every one of them. My sorority has also helped me grow and become more outgoing, which has allowed me to meet even more people and make even more friends.

My decision to go to college was important, but my decision to go to the college that I fell in love with was even more important. My life could be so much different right now if I had not followed my heart. I would not be who I am, I would not have the experiences I have, and I definitively would not have the amazing friends that I have. Every decision that I have made up to this point in my life has allowed me to be where I am and has made me into who I am, and I could not be more grateful.

They say that college is where you find your bridesmaids, not your husband and I honestly believe that to be true. The girls that I have truly bonded with understand me as only sisters do, and they support me like no one else. Sometimes I realize that they have only been a part of my life for a short time, but it feels like that have always been a significant part of my story.  I am so thankful for these girls, the memories we have made, and the memories we will continue to make. I am so abundantly grateful for my college, the opportunities it has given me and will continue to give me, and the amazing people it has led me to.

I am a Sophomore here at the College of Charleston. I am currently working towards an Anthropology & Biology major with a minor in Crime, Law, & Society. I really want to go into the forensics field or something similar. I love self-help books, stress baking, and hanging out with my sorority sisters.
