If you’re ready to finally admit that we’re all Swifties first and humans second, then here are Taylor’s best songs that you need to listen to.

Taylor Swift

“A Place in This World” – Taylor wrote this song at 13 when she had just moved to Nashville to pursue her music career. This song is extremely relatable because we all want to find a place where we feel we belong and can truly be ourselves. For her, it was becoming the greatest songwriter of our generation.

Runner Up: “Our Song” – Just for being the first Taylor song I’d ever heard.

Fearless

“The Way I Loved You” – This song is so dramatic, it’s an entire experience. I feel like I have to put on a performance every time it comes on. This song is not typical Taylor, criminally underrated, and allllllmost makes me want to get into a toxic relationship. Fearless was when Taylor really started showing her storytelling abilities through song, and this song really showcases that.

Runner Up: “Forever and Always” – The iconic chair-throwing performance!!!

Speak Now

“Dear John” – This is one of the most heartbreaking songs ever written– and she wrote it when she was only 19! This song made me hate John Mayer for life. I’ll never forgive him, and neither should you. It shows how horrific a toxic relationship can be, with a little dash of abuse of power, John Mayer being 32 and Taylor being 19 at the time they dated.

Runner Up: “Long Live” – It just makes me think about my love for Taylor and how far she’s come.

Red

“Holy Ground” – If I could time travel to ANY point in time, I’d go back to when I first heard “Holy Ground.” The feeling is indescribable, so get ready if you’ve never heard it before. And no, I’m not hyping it up too much, it’s a musical masterpiece, and if you don’t agree, you suck.

Runner Up: “State of Grace” – It’s the opener for the RED tour!! (Can you tell this is my favorite era?)

1989

“Clean” – I think this is my all-time favorite Taylor Swift song. “Clean” is a song about growth. Taylor wrote this when she came to realize that she had grown past her last heartbreak. She didn’t find herself wallowing in their breakup anymore. It’s an incredible song, accompanied by a beautiful speech during her 1989 tour that I think about every day.

Runner Up: “Wonderland” – Yes, I picked the Swiftgron song, it’s amazing. 1989 has the best bonus tracks period.

Reputation

“Getaway Car” – A complete masterpiece of a song. I still can’t believe it’s real. Fans seem to agree it’s about Taylor’s short fling with Tom Hiddleston shortly after she and C*lvin H*rris broke up. Taylor knew she and Hiddleston were doomed from the start, so she used the metaphor of criminals speeding away from a crime scene, an in-the-moment situation. Her MIND, wow.

Runner Up: “Dress” – Shout out to the 2016 Met Gala!

Lover

“Cruel Summer” – In a deluxe version of the album Lover, Taylor describes the summer of 2016 as the “apocalypse” signifying how upsetting it had been for her, which is a direct reflection of this song. During this time, she also started up a romance with Joe Alwyn and explains that at the beginning of a relationship, there’s always this yearning for something that isn’t quite there yet. And the bridge!!!!!!! God, she’s good.

Runner Up: “Paper Rings” – I love in-love-Taylor so much! It’s what she deserves.

folklore

“this me trying” – Taylor accepts her own faults in her relationships and illustrates that she’s haunted by her past mistakes and coping mechanisms. It was really hard to pick a favorite from folklore because of how real and emotional the entire album is. This is the one album that you almost HAVE to listen to from start to finish in order.

Runner Up: “betty” – A fan favorite, a return to country, a perfect story. She don’t miss!!
