5 Fun Study Break Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

Finals week has officially arrived, collegiates, and we are currently up to our ears in studying for exams and scrambling to write final papers. We know how busy finals week is for everyone, but it’s important to take some time out of your work to relax. Trust us, it can be hard to hear that, especially when you spend your study break thinking about all the things you should be doing instead. But in a study by Huffington Post, it is proven that taking breaks actually helps boost productivity. So, here are 5 fun ways to de-stress during finals week.

1. Explore Holiday Decor in Charleston

With all of our professors hounding us for assignments, it’s easy to forget that the holidays are right around the corner. But, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the season in the city. Check out the grand, multi-colored Christmas tree in Marion Square or the amazing Christmas trains in the lobby of the Charleston Place.

2. Listen to Some Fire Spotify Playlists

The right kind of music can be a great tool for focusing, but it can be a great stress relief to listen to upbeat playlists while dancing around your room. Check out our favorites here for some holiday cheer and here for a dancey mix.

3. Take a Nap

We have all been there – four hours into a paper and all you want to do is lay your head down and sleep. And there is absolutely no shame in that. So cuddle up in your bed, take a power nap and feel more refreshed than ever when it’s time to get back to work.

4. Go Out to Eat

Charleston is home to some of the best restaurants in the country, so make sure to capitalize on that before going home for Winter Break. Gather a group of friends, dress up and head out to a fancy restaurant for one last hoorah before the end of the semester.

5. Watch Netflix or Read a Book

This is perhaps our favorite way to relax. Getting lost in a good book that wasn’t assigned for class or watching the new Gilmore Girls episodes for the third time are easy ways to distract yourself from the pain of finals. (We highly recommend The Crown as well. If you haven’t seen it – go watch it now!)

Don’t forget to take care of yourselves, collegiettes, and best of luck on finals!

I'm a senior English major with a concentration in Creative Writing at CofC originally from Boston. I'm also a member of the Honors College, Literati, and HSA here at the College. I love libraries, Target, and exploring; and I am way too emotionally invested in fictional characters. I'm currently leaving the love of my life (the ocean) behind to study abroad in London for the semester.
