I am a fan of listening to podcasts. They’re a great way to learn all different kinds of information about your favorite topics, from the news to fictional stories to more. Because I am a massive film geek, I really enjoy listening to podcasts discussing film in all its different forms. These are four of my favorite podcasts that do exactly that.

Unspooled

Hosted by actor, comedian, and film fan Paul Scheer and Los Angeles film critic Amy Nicholson, Unspooled is on the hunt to find the greatest movies of all time. The first season examined the AFI Top 100 list from 2007 and the second season is being done in groups of miniseries, each with their own theme, to determine what films are worthy of being the “greatest of all time” through the lens of placing them in a ship and sending them into space. For fans of discussing prestige films, this is the perfect podcast.

Happy Sad Confused

This podcast started out as weekly celebrity interviews, but it has grown into a slightly different niche since the pandemic began. Its current format, created by host Josh Horowitz, still talks with some of the biggest movie stars and filmmakers each week, but instead of discussing their careers and projects, they discuss their chosen “comfort film,” covering why they chose it, some analysis of the film, and what films they would pair it with in a double-feature showing. If you like celebrity interviews and people talking about their favorite movies, then you’ll love Happy Sad Confused.

The Cinema Clash

If you’re interested in the latest films and awards discussion then you should listen to The Cinema Clash. Hosted by D.C. film critics Charlie Juhl and Hannah Buchdal, this podcast is a weekly rundown of reactions to films being released that week, news about big upcoming projects, and award season predictions. It’s like having a series of film reviews read to you. It is a great way to keep up to date with all things film.

How Did This Get Made

While most of the other podcasts on this list cover what most would consider “good” movies, this podcast looks at some of the worst movies of all time and asks the question “How did this get made?” Hosted by Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael, these three take one exceptionally bad movie each week and look at its inception, its reception, and analyze the film itself to figure out how on earth it actually got made and landed in theaters. If you’re a fan of watching bad movies, then you should run to start listening to this podcast.

These are just a few of my favorite film podcasts, but there are many more out there!
