Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for a College Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

Valentine’s Day is a few weeks away. Whether you’re single, in an open relationship, or are going steady with someone, the holiday can cause stress for a multitude of reasons. First, you could be dreading the bar tab you are going to have because the Hallmark holiday is on a Thursday. Second, you may be wondering if it is appropriate to get your partner or friend with benefits even a chocolate bar. Third, the costs of actual gifts can be PRICEY.

While I can’t help you with deciding on whether it’s appropriate to purchase a gift for your lover, I can help you find the best deals!

The Valentine’s Day Gift Shop on Amazon

For people like me who know they have to get something but are looking for some inspiration, this section is perfect! The shop allows for you to pick if you’re shopping for her, him, kids, pets, friends, or coworkers. I got a quality gift for super cheap! (Sorry, can’t tell you what it is yet and ruin the surprise for my boyfriend.)

Edible Arrangements

Edible Arrangements have the reputation of being expensive; if you do it right, however, you can find a good deal on decadent chocolate covered fruit. The businesses’ website offers discount codes such as PICKUP for $10 off and FREEDEL for free delivery. They even have a Valentine’s Day section where you can pinpoint who your gift is for.

Esty’s Valentine’s Day Section

For Christmas, I got my boyfriend a bracelet with GPS coordinates of where we met from Etsy. It was cheap for the personalized, handmade quality. If you go to Etsy’s website, search Valentine’s Day gifts, you can find a plethora of ideas! If you are searching for something more specific, Etsy is a great place to find it cheap.

Take a 5 Below or Target Shopping Trip

5 Below and Target are all the rage for college students! Both stores offer cheap, cute gifts that are the perfect amount of cheesy for Valentine’s Day. In addition, both stores offer items for low prices that are useful for everyday life. If you can’t decide what to get your partner, take them shopping with you before dinner or drinks!

Make a Homemade Gift

Being that both my boyfriend and I are struggling college students, we ALWAYS make homemade gifts. Whether it’s homemade blankets, scarfs, portraits, or photo books, these gifts are the most sentimental and meaningful. The price isn’t what matters, it’s the thought and love the holiday brings that truly counts.

My name is Cassie Malhado and I’m a sophomore at Central Michigan University. Raised in the small town of Imlay City, coming to university has allowed me to expand my comfort zone. Currently, I am studying Journalism: Public Relations Concentration with a minor in Applied Business Communication to do public relations work for a non-profit or corporation after graduation. On campus I am a member of the Honors Program, am a public relations executive for Central Michigan Life, run the social media and belong to the editorial board for the academic journal The Honors Platform, and am a sister of the Delta Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi Omega. I am excited to add events planner for Her Campus on my list of involvements as well! My passions include politics, traveling, and rollerblading with Her Campus Editor-in-Chief, Kara, which I cannot wait to write more about.
