Stand Out with Fall’s Top Colors

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

Every year the leaves change color, so it makes sense that the fall color trends would change as well.  We have seen that darker colors are popular during this time of year. These colors are determined by color forecasting companies. Yes, this is a real thing — Google it!  This year’s top colors are: plum (not the fruit), paprika, rusty blue, and olive green.

Now adding these colors into your outfit can really make it pop.  However, you don’t want to go overboard and look like a walking paint palate. They should be the base of your outfit or the finishing touches.  No one wants their crush to be blindsided by the color combinations or think to themselves, “Wow what were they thinking?”  These 5 tips on how to add the top fall colors into your outfit will keep you looking good all season long.

1. Nail Polish:  Start with what you are most comfortable with.  If adding these colors into your outfit is something you’re not sure about, the nails are the perfect place to start.  Most beauty companies have nail polishes in the top colors.  Consider buying a less expensive one at first, until you are sure that you will like the color and actually use it.  Otherwise it will just sit in the drawer and collect dust!  A helpful hint to make the color last, use a clear coat to add shine and prevent chips.

2. Jewelry:  Jewelry is always the finishing touch to any outfit, so why not add color here? You can add as much or little as desired.  This is also a great way to personalize your outfit.  How many times have you gone somewhere and seen someone wearing the same thing as you?  Well not anymore.  Using jewelry to incorporate fall colors will make you stand out in the crowd.  The jewelry you use can be costume (for us college students) or go for something fancier.

3. Scarfs:  Ever needed something to complete your look?  Adding a scarf in any of the fall colors will make that happen.  Not only are scarfs totally in right now, but they are also practical.  With fall here, the weather is getting colder.  We want to look cute but being warm is also an important factor.  Using a scarf is a great way to blend the two looks.

4. Clothing: We can all pretty much agree that shopping is something we love.  Now we have an excuse to do it; shopping for clothing in the fall colors (plum, paprika, rusty blue and olive green).  Don’t be afraid to take a chance on colored jeans or a cute sweater.  Always try them on because on the rack or hanger they can be deceiving.  Pair a plain top with colored jeans to create a great look.

5. Purses:  Most of us carry one at all times, whether it is a clutch or one big enough to be a suitcase (my purse).  You put all the necessities and the so called “necessities” in there, so why not use a cute fall colored purse.  They come in all colors and styles so there is something for everyone.  Take satisfaction in knowing that you will be a “stylista” all fall long!
