Put a Little “Spring” in Your Step

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

After facing months upon months of one of the coldest winters in a while, any fleeting signs of spring seem like a blessing. The brief hints begin to spark excitement, such as seeing above freezing temperatures in the forecast, the sun peeking out from behind the clouds for longer than in days past, or catching a glimpse of the grass sticking out through the snow on your walk to class. The thought of springtime brings with it the motivation of a fresh, clean start. As cliché as it is, spring means out with the old and in with the new. Here are three simple ways to add a little “spring” to your step to get you even more ready for the upcoming spring season!

1.     Spring Clean your Closet!

Nothing is more thrilling than that moment when you get to switch out your wardrobe from bulky sweatshirts and boots to lightweight cardigans and flats. When you’re going through your closet, make sure to create a pile of clothes that you never wore throughout the winter because chances are if they didn’t make the cut this year, then they’ll just sit at home next year. That brings up another great point. Go through the clothes that have been stuffed in your drawers at home since last August; if you left them at home this past school year and didn’t even realize you still had them, then you probably won’t be missing them next year. Take your clothes to your local Plato’s Closet to sell them for some cash, and donate the rest to a local thrift shop or Goodwill. Use that extra cash to add some new spring pieces into your wardrobe; after all, finally being able to bust out new pastel colors is the best feeling.

2.     Take Advantage of the Warm(er) Weather!

After being cooped up inside for the last four to five months, nothing is better than those days when the sun actually breaks through the clouds and provides us with a warmer day. Take advantage of the weather on days like this because they tend to be scarce, so give yourself a break from the homework! Go for a bike ride around campus, take a stroll through a local park, or even get some friends together and go rollerblading. Not only will it feel great to be outside and under the sun, but there are so many simple ways to fit in a little bit of exercise into your day.

3.     Treat Yourself to Spring Decorations!

The dark and dreary days have come and are hopefully soon to be gone, so ditch the dark colors and liven up your bedroom with some pastel and floral decorations. You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money, just a few cheerful pieces to brighten your day when you come home from a long day of classes. From bright colored metal buckets for organizational purposes, to a simple flower garland for a pop of color, there are so many simple ways to add some peppiness to your room. Finding these decorations is simple too; Just check out the holiday section at craft stores like Jo-Ann’s (usually located in the first few isles when you walk in), or the dollar section at Target is always a great option too. Better yet, if you’re really looking to get yourself into the spring mood, treat yourself to a fresh bouquet of flowers for your desk. After all, who knows when the flowers will finally peak through the snow.

Happy days are soon to come! It’s time to get ready for the long awaited and highly anticipated spring season! Add a little spring to your step, and before you know it sunny days and warmer weather will be here!
