Move-out day can be totally daunting. A lot of us (or is it just me?) accumulate a fair amount of stuff over the course of the year and we end up moving out with a lot more than we moved in with. This can make packing tricky and pretty irritating, but here’s a few space-saving hacks that can help make move out go smoother.

Multi-Task

Don’t have enough room for your T-shirts in the suitcase? Use them to wrap your dishes or any breakables to keep them from chipping. This way, both your shirts and your dishes are getting packed, you don’t have any excess tissue paper or bubble wrap, and you saved some space in your clothes bag!

Toilet Paper Rolls

Wrapping your electrical cords and cables around empty toilet paper rolls is the perfect way to keep them from becoming a tangled mess. You can write right on the roll what the device is and/or what the cord’s function is. It might take an extra minute to pack this way, but unpacking them will be a breeze! Start saving your old rolls now!

Stuff Your Shoes

It’s so hard to decide how to pack small items like a mini jar of paper clips, decorative trinkets, or even some of your jewelry. The solution? Put them in your shoes! Your shoes are the perfect cushion for small, breakable items that need to be protected. If you’re worried about anything spilling out, wrap your shoes in plastic wrap to cover the openings, and if your shoes have dirt on them, it’ll be trapped inside the plastic wrap so your other items are safe.

Books on Wheels

If you’re a bookworm like me, you probably have a whole bookshelf worth of books to get home somehow. Instead of throwing out your back, pack your books in a suitcase with wheels. You’ll find this makes transporting them way easier and you can pack more books into one bag!

Stop the Leak!

There’s nothing worse than opening a box and finding your body wash has gotten all over everything! Before you pack your toiletries, stick some plastic wrap under the lid to keep the products from leaking out. This only works if the top is screwed on really tight, so be sure to double check your handiwork!
