During winter break, not all of us have the opportunity to travel or do something of the fancy and expensive nature. We get a three-week break from classes (Thank God!) but, not being in class can leave us with a feeling of emptiness. Here are some ideas for keeping busy over break.

Work

Even though we’re supposed to relax during break, it doesn’t hurt to work a little. It’s always nice to have extra spending money, especially when you come back from break. Try to pick up hours from your current job or offer side work while you’re at home.

Read

Like your elementary school teachers always said, it’s always good to read. I was an avid reader for years until I came to college and I was always so busy. Christmas break is a great time to relax and read some of those books you have packed away.

Go to the movies

See what’s playing at your local movie theatre! The animated Grinch remake is coming out before the holidays, it would be perfect to see for the Christmas spirit!

Revamp your resume

Being a college student, it’s always a good idea to keep your resume up to date. If your major requires the use of a portfolio, I’d say update that as well! You have free time now, and you might as well use it up.

Exercise

I know, I know. I hate exercising too. But it will give you something to do if you’re bored, and you will burn off some extra calories from all those desserts your grandma made during Christmas dinner.

If all else fails, you can bake goodies with your mom. I bet she’d love that.

Here’s to a productive, and much-needed winter break.
