Five New Series to Watch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

Call me old-fashioned, but there is a feeling I get from snuggling in my bed with a snack and a new episode of a brand new T.V. series that Netflix will never provide. Netflix is great when you are willing to spend hours procrastinating on homework or can’t fall asleep in the early hours of the morning. However, for something to look forward to at the end of a long day, sometimes an episode that nobody else has seen is much more enticing.

Around this time every fall, tons of new shows are broadcasted and immediately labeled as either the new “it” series or a stinker. Here are some recommendations that are worth checking out.

1. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland– ABC Thursdays at 8 p.m.

This Once Upon a Time spin-off goes beyond what we know of the age-old tale “Alice in Wonderland.” After sharing her adventures about falling down the rabbit hole and finding love with a genie in a place called Wonderland, Alice’s family put her into an insane asylum, and that’s where we find her in the first episode. Similarly to the show Once Upon a Time, there are several flashbacks to Wonderland included to help the audience make sense of what is happening present day.

2. The Originals– CW Tuesday 8a.m.

The Vampire Diaries spin-off takes us to New Orleans where we see a mixture of old and new witches, werewolves and vampires. Siblings Elijah, Klaus and Rebekah, who are known as the “world’s original vampires,” are all navigating through the city for their own reasons encountering many different characters and challenges along the way.

3. Trophy Wife – ABC Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

Former party girl, Kate, marries a much older man and must deal with all the baggage he brings to the relationship. Two ex-wives and three step children are definitely not what any young woman pictures for her newlywed period, but Kate is willing to handle the obstacles.

4.The Tomorrow People – CW Wednesdays at 9 p.m.
A teen, Stephen, begins to discover strange powers such as teleporting in his sleep and hearing strange voices. Stephen and three others come to understand that their powers are actually representative of the next stage of human evolution.

5.Welcome to the Family– NBC Thursdays at 8 p.m.

Unlikely families are brought together when teenagers Molly and Junior fall in love. Race and class distinctions are evident between Molly’s white family and Junior’s Latino family. Both fathers are immediately unhappy and the mothers are more even tempered about the situation while both Molly and Junior try to find a way to be happy.
