Blake Hibbits, a freshman here at CMU, says playing college basketball at a Division I school has always been his dream.  Fortunately for him, he was able to make that dream come true.  Not only does Blake play for the CMU basketball team, but he also starts and is the second leading point scorer.

Blake is from Hudsonville, MI, where he played high school basketball, baseball, and football.  Originally, he was committed to play basketball at Samford, a private school in Alabama.  After the coach was fired from Samford, he decided to come to Central.  Blake explained that college basketball is a lot different from high school basketball, because everyone is at good making the game more physical.

Blake is currently undecided on his major but is leaning towards accounting.  He finished off his first semester at CMU with a GPA of 3.8, pretty impressive for someone not only new to the college scene but who is also playing a sport.  When asked about how he keeps up with his grades, he said he just brings his homework on the road and studies whenever he has time.  If only it were that easy for the rest of us!

When it comes to Blake’s biggest fan, he explained that it was a tie between his little sister and his grandparents.  He said his little sister attends all of his home games.  In addition to their regular attendance, his dad, grandpa, and little sister drove five hours to go see him play in Ohio.  Overall he has a lot of support from his family.

When asked about his thoughts on the season past, Blake said that they started out surprising people, by showing teams they were for real and not just an easy win.  Although they hit a rough patch towards the end of their season, Blake is hopeful for the team’s future.  He explained that the team is very young, and he hopes they continue to get better as a team for future seasons.

In regards to the team in general, Blake said they are all pretty close-knit, and hang out outside the sport.

As if we needed another reason to realize Blake Hibbits is a Campus Celebrity, he plans to play baseball for CMU as well.  He will be redshirted in the spring, but intends to play the following season.  Not only is Blake an athlete, but he also does well in school and is good-looking!  This week’s Campus Celebrity is a triple threat.
