5 Tips to Help Get You Through Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

Before you can enjoy the relaxation and fun of Spring Break, you have to get through midterms first. Here are five tips to help you get through exam season!

1. Have a plan

If you’ve procrastinated the first half of the beginning of the semester, you’re probably trying to catch up like several other students on campus. Don’t freak out! Take a breath and organize a plan from now until the week of midterms. You can write out how many hours you’ll dedicate to each class. Make sure to make time to relax your mind too!

2. Quiz yourself

There’s no point in studying or re-reading chapter notes if you’re not going to quiz yourself. Either meet up with a friend or someone from in class or go on websites such as Quizlet, where you can quiz yourself. Make it interesting and if you get most or all of the questions right, reward yourself with a study break.

3. Stay alert

You’re not going to remember everything you reviewed if you can barely keep yourself awake. If you plan on pulling an all-nighter, make sure to keep your energy up through brain food, such as Chewy granola bars and rest. When you feel your body is about to crash, take a quick nap and set an alarm to wake yourself back up and finish studying.  Caffeine is always a great way to keep you up and running, too.

4. Have a study buddy

Studying is more entertaining with a friend. Meet up with your study buddy at the library or in a study room in your dorm. You both can take turns reviewing notes, re-reading chapters and quizzing each other. With a partner, if you find yourself slacking off or checking your Twitter feed, you’ll have someone to help regain your focus.

5. Go to your professor’s office hours

Whether this is your first or fifth time visiting a professor’s office, this is the perfect time to communicate any problems or confusion before your exam date. Don’t feel awkward or embarrassed about going to their office (even if this is the first time you’re actually talking one-on-one with them) because they can give you the answers to the questions you need that may be on your exam.

With these tips, you’ll be sure to be on the right track come midterms!
