Poetry Corner: An Ode to All the Women

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Butler chapter.

An Ode to All the Women

I know that I may be young

That I haven’t had a lot of experience yet

You tell me that we all are different

But, despite the differences, I think I may have found out what we all have in common:

Our curves

No matter how small or short or tall or large you are

I can guarantee that you have some curves

Whether it shows in your chest or your stomach or your hips or your thighs or your calves

It does not matter

All women have them

So, I want to say an ode

A toast to what connects us:

To love handles and tummy rolls and thick thighs and plump bottoms

To curves and bumps and stretch marks, no matter where they are

To the women who use their stomachs for drums to make music

To the women who use their hips to help hold up their children

To the women who love their arms because they are strong enough to carry the weight of the world

To those who wear heels and skirts just so they can show off their calves they got from all their hard work

To the women who love how their butt looks in those jeans

To those who love eating and love what they eat

To those who sees the faces in their stomachs and use them to get a laugh from those around them

To those who got a little top heavy during puberty and still rock it like no one else

To those who love wearing crop tops and tank tops and skirts and shorts that show off their stretch marks and scars

For they know they got it from love and hard work and nature and stubbornness and know that they should be appreciated, know that they should be worn with pride

To those who know that our mother’s bodies was our first home

That it loved and sheltered us as we grew

To those women that know our bodies are landscapes

That know we reflect the very earth we stand upon

That we are full of smooth curves and sharp edges

That we are both soft and hard

And know that we all have a core of fire

To those women, all those wonderful women, the beautiful women, the glorious women who know we don’t all come in one shape or color or size

To those glorious women who can see the differences and can appreciate them

To those glorious women who can see the differences and can appreciate themselves

And those who can teach others to do the same

With an affinity for iced coffee, blazers, and the worlds worst jokes, she calls herself a witty optomistic, which can be heavily reflected in her writing.
