Follow the Signs: Your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant (Rising) Signs and What They Mean

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Butler chapter.

When somebody asks for your “sign” they are most likely referring to your sun sign; however, there are two other types of astrological signs too: moon signs and ascendant signs.

Sun Sign

Your Sun sign describes your basic personality and is what you use when looking at your horoscope. This is also the only sign that can be determined without your specific birth place and time. If you do not yet know your Sun sign you can look it up with the chart below!

Moon Sign

Your Moon sign represents your inner self (e.g. habits, feelings, and instincts). Most of the time the traits revealed by your Moon sign are ones that only you, or people close to you, recognize. Moon signs change every two and a half  days and also consider location; therefore, they are much more specific than Sun signs. In order to find out your moon sign there are several calculators you can use online.

Ascendant Sign

Your Ascendant, or Rising sign describes your temperament. This is the part of your character that you willingly and purposefully reveal to the world. Ascendant signs are usually the most descriptive and relative to current and future circumstances due to the fact that they change every two hours. If you would like to find out your Ascendant sign there are online calculators you can use, similarly to figuring out your Moon sign.

You are more than just your basic personality, and Astrology is more than just the monthly horoscope found in the back of magazines. If this kind of stuff interests you, I urge you to look up your Moon and Ascendant signs and see what unique dimensions about you are revealed!
