When somebody asks for your “sign” they are most likely referring to your sun sign; however, there are two other types of astrological signs too: moon signs and ascendant signs.
Sun Sign

Moon Sign
Your Moon sign represents your inner self (e.g. habits, feelings, and instincts). Most of the time the traits revealed by your Moon sign are ones that only you, or people close to you, recognize. Ascendant Sign
Your Ascendant, or Rising sign describes your temperament. This is the part of your character that you willingly and purposefully reveal to the world. Ascendant signs are usually the most descriptive and relative to current and future circumstances due to the fact that they change every two hours.
