The other day I saw this canvas that said, “be the Leslie Knope of whatever you do.” Let me tell you, it inspired the shit out of me.

Everyone who’s ever seen Parks and Rec or even has a vague idea of who Leslie Knope is, knows that she is the most hard working person out there.

If the Grinch’s heart grew like three times its size or whatever, Leslie was born with a heart like 18 times that big.

She’s a pants-suit wearing powerhouse and I’ve never wanted to be anyone so badly in my life.

Long story short, Leslie had lofty goals, but she achieved all of them. She started by fighting city council for a park and ended up running for president.

So, be the Leslie Knope of whatever you do.

For me, being the Leslie Knope of whatever I do means trying my best at literally everything.

Like most college students, I’m an avid procrastinator. Typically I’ll do absolutely everything but what needs to get done. Then, at the final hour, I’ll bullshit some assignment and hope for the best. I neeeeeeed to stop doing that.

I’m currently studying journalism. Journalism is all about timeliness and deadlines. I miss one assignment and all of my credibility is gone.

So in order to be the Leslie Knope of Journalism, I need to be prepared, get shit done in a timely manner, and get more pants suits.

Figure out what you need to do to be the Leslie Knope of your world. Go eat some waffles and find your inner Leslie, girl!

Rae Stoffel is a senior at Butler University studying Journalism with a double minor in French and strategic communications. With an affinity for iced coffee, blazers, and the worlds worst jokes, she calls herself a witty optomistic, which can be heavily reflected in her writing. Stoffel is a Chicago native looking forward to returning to the windy city post graduation.
Jazmine Bowens is a senior at Butler University. She is a Psychology major with a minor in Neuroscience and the Campus Corespondent for Butler University's Her Campus chapter. When she isn't in class, she's writing poetry, reading romance novels, or hanging out with her friends. Jazmine hopes to one day become an environmental lawyer and a published novelist.
