*Spoilers for season 3*

On September 17 season 3 of Sex Education was released on Netflix. I am pretty biased when it comes to this show because it is literally my favorite show. It has everything: comedy, teen drama, and real heavy topics. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism are all big topics that are tackled throughout the series. The characters are written so well and the character development with some of the “antagonists” is absolutely amazing.

Adam and Ruby are two characters that in the beginning just seem like high school bullies. But throughout season 3 the writers somehow gave some of the best development I have seen in a TV show. Adam learns to be more open with himself and deal with his emotions. After years of growing up with a father whose only visible emotion is anger forces Adam to push all of his down deep. But by the end of the season he can write poems about his feelings and be honest with the people around him. Ruby on the other hand seems to be a typical Regina George type mean girl. Like Adam throughout the season she is able to be more than just “mean”.

This new school year Moordale receives a new headmistress to replace Headmaster Groff. Hope is a self proclaimed feminist and tries to be the savior of Moordale’s reputation. I think it is an excellent commentary on the idea of white feminism. Hope although says she is a feminist and is inclusive is actually the opposite. She is very dismissal towards Cal when they express how they are feeling as a nonbinary student in the school. Hope makes Cal wear a uniform they aren’t comfortable in and she makes them go in the girls line for separated activities. Hope also makes Vivveine the poster child for Moordale solely because she is a woman of color and not Viv’s actual achievements as a student. This makes Vivveine feel inadequate and is completely inappropriate for a head teacher to admit.

Season 3 in my opinion is one of the best seasons of Sex Education. Giving very much Stranger Things season 3 vibes. Although there are many heavy topics there also is the typical teen romance drama between many of the characters. Otis and Maeve, Eric and Adam. Overall I think this season was so great and I think everyone should watch this show. Truly top tier Netflix, and it’s getting renewed for a season 4!
