October is a month of many hats and holds significance to many people involved in health and care. Emotional wellness is another topic that we show relevance to this month. Emotional wellness is very important to me because I believe that if your mental health isn’t in a good place then you aren’t capable of doing things to the best of your ability. It is important for us to take care of ourselves and be aware of where our emotional wellness is. Self-care is the best care, and we should focus on maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle. When life is unfair, we need to know how to take a step back and focus on what matters. There are certain things that I do to prioritize my emotional wellness and to reduce stress. Here are some of my key tricks to limit stress and increase better living.

Reni’s Tips for Relaxation

  1. Go for a walk: I know it’s too cliché to say, but taking the time out to go outside, take in the scenery, and walk really helps me clear my head. With the cool weather whisking away my negative thoughts, it allows me to become one with myself again and focus.
  2. Getting a mani-pedi: I am a nail-obsessed girly and love to pamper myself. Getting my nails done helps me reset and feel renewed. Sometimes I get a more fun design with loud colors, or I get something more monotoned. This helps me express myself and gives me something fun to look at every day.
  3. Talking with family and friends: Having a good support system who you can rely on is super important especially for those of us who are in school. These people shouldn’t be taken advantage of or used as a therapist, but to have someone who you can turn to when you need to vent is uber important!
  4. Eating good foods: Sometimes when I don’t feel good about myself it reflects in my food choices. Eating healthy and yummy meals can change your mood and boost your confidence.
  5. Praying: I am a Christian and go to God first with all of my problems. No matter how big or small, I can always confide in and turn to him when things aren’t going my way or when I just don’t feel like myself. Having a source of faith can affect mental health and emotional wellness drastically.
