How To Throw a Friendsgiving in Your Dorm Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

Thanksgiving is a time to say thanks to those in your life who are always there for you and make you a better person. College would be tough without your friends. Before everyone goes home for Thanksgiving break, have all your friends together to celebrate a Friendsgiving! Here are some tips for throwing a Friendsgiving in your dorm room.

1. Spilt Who Brings What

After you decide what you want to have, you can spilt who gets what. A trip to the grocery store to gather the supplies with all your friends is fun and everyone can buy one item.

2. It Doesn’t Have to Be Fancy

Don’t overly complicate it. Some simple dinners you can do include pasta, tacos or make your own pizza. If you want to stick to more Thanksgiving food, you can pick up instant mashed potatoes, canned cranberry sauce, sliced turkey from the deli and a premade pie from the grocery store. Personally, my friends and I made boxed mac and cheese last year and it was perfect!

3. Cook/Bake in Your Dorm Kitchen

If you have time and want to cook or bake yourself, a lot of the dorms here on UB’s campus have cooking/baking supplies you can rent out from the front office.

4. Get Creative

To make it more fun, you can add some decor or table decorations. Last year, we took index cards and folded them to make nametags. We also took storage bins we had under our beds to make a table and then put a few of our kitchen towels over it. You can also create a playlist to listen to while eating. Spotify has great playlists for dinner parties.

No matter what, having all of your friends together is a special moment! They are the ones who got you through the semester and it’s important to celebrate that.
