1.  Essential Oils

Essential Oils are extracted from plants such as lemongrass, tea tree or lavender. Adding these oils to a diffuser releases pleasant scents that are beneficial for mental and physical health. Essential oils are calming for studying or winding down to sleep. You can pick which scent to add to the diffuser depending on your preference. Amazon has several diffusers and oils for decent prices! I prefer lavender or eucalyptus. Both are relaxing scents that allow me to unwind after a long day.

2. Bring a T.V

In my house back at home, there’s always a T.V on in someone’s room. Having the T.V on helps fill the silence and keeps my brain occupied. My roommate also brought a Wii from home and all our suitemates get together and play Mario Kart. You can also find a way to play Spotify on the T.V and create a playlist of you and your roommate’s favorite songs. Having a T.V is a great way to make friends in your hallway by inviting them over for movie or game nights.

3. Keep Your Dorm Clean

There’s nothing worse than coming back from classes to a messy room. Before leaving in the morning; make your bed, take out any trash and organize your desk. Coming back to a clean room will motivate you to do homework and it’ll be easier to relax later on in the night.

4. Creating a Cozy Bed

Investing in a few extra pillows and blankets for your bed can make it much more comfortable. Target sells cute throw pillows (many of which are on sale now!). Adding throw pillows ties the bed together and provides support when you want to relax on your bed during the day. Bringing a couple of throw blankets will come in handy during the long, cold Winter. Adding a mattress pad and soft sheets can also make it feel like your bed at home.

5.  Decor!

Filling your wall with personal photos, posters, and items you love will allow you to express yourself and create a space you feel comfortable in. If you don’t have any decor with you, fill it with memorabilia you collect throughout the year. Last year, I attached football tickets, receipts, and polaroids to my bulletin board above my bed.
