In Comes Spring & In Comes The Cleaning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

Over spring break while everyone was drinking on the beach and sunbathing, I cleaned, every day. And if I am being honest, I found quite the enjoyment out of it. When I lived at home with my parents, I was a slob, but now that I live alone I am a clean freak. When I say clean freak, I mean I am the person to clean my apartment so well that it looks like no one is living in it.

With that being sad, I have collected an array of tips to clean your apartment!

1. Make a schedule

This is important if you live alone to stay on track, but more important if you live with roommates. I would constantly clean my whole apartment and then sit in the corner and watch all my roomates crap all over it just for me to clean it again, It was a vicious cycle. I evidently lost my cool and created a chore schedule, where everyone had specific duties to do each week and on a specific days. I know it sounds crazy but it works wonders. Include duties such as taking out the trash, do the dishes, vacuuming, wiping off the counters, windows, and oven.

2. De-clutter

De-cluttering keeps you more organized and has a lot of psychological influences. Studies have shown that disorganized homes add to your stress level. It is important to set aside time to go through all your clothing, belongings, quite honestly everything and ask yourself “do you really need this?”. Most likely you don’t need it and won’t miss it if you have to think about the item for some time.

3. Kitchen & sink cleaning

The best refrigerator cleaner is a combination of salt and soda water. Make sure you take one shelf at a time and start top to bottom! Also, to make your sink smell better put a cut lemon into your disposal and let it run!

4. Have fun!

I know cleaning sounds dreadful sometimes but it can be quite calming and stress relieving. Put the phone away, blast some music, and grab the swiffer! You will feel so much better once you are sitting in a clean, happy, environment!

Here are my favorite cleaning check lists that I follow!
