10 Last Minute Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

Procrastinate until the last minute or too busy to put together something elaborate? Here are 10 costume ideas that require minimal shopping or effort, and will still look great!

  1. “Reputation” Taylor Swift Everyone is buzzing about Taylor since the release of her new album, and this is such a fun look to recreate from one of her previous eras! All you need is a black sparkly bodysuit/dress, sheer tights or fishnets, and black knee-high boots. Grab a microphone, her signature red lipstick, and you’re all set!
  2. A Witch – A classic and simple halloween costume, that only really requires a witches hat! (I’ve even seen people make their own). Pair with a maxi dress, dark lipstick, and whatever heeled shoe you see fit. A broom is a great addition as well!
  3. A Cheerleader – Have an old uniform from your high school days sitting in your basement? Feel free to spice it up on Halloween with pom poms and a big hair bow! If you don’t have a uniform, a simple fitted tank top and pleated skirt work as well! This is also a great couples costume if your boyfriend is being any type of athlete.
  4. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction – An iconic look that also happens to be very easy to pull off! All you need is black leather pants, a white button down shirt, loafers, red lip stick, and a black wig if you have lighter colored hair.
  5. A Devil – I’ve seen so many DIYs for this costume, but as long as you have horns, pretty much any variation works! One option is red flare pants, a lace top, firey makeup, and a tail if desired!
  6. A Fairy -This is a fun excuse to get dressed up and do some makeup! Grab a pair of wings from your local costume store, and the rest is pretty much up to you! One idea is a sparkly mini dress, coordinated heels, glittery eyeshadow (body glitter is great too!) and a wand.
  7. Little Red Riding Hood – This costume is so cute, and I don’t see it as often anymore! You can go solo, or have your partner be the wolf. All you need is a red hooded cape, a black mini dress, and some boots! Pair with lace stockings for extra warmth!
  8. Spies – This is another one that can double as a couples costume! Wear all black, trench coats, boots, and dark-tinted sunglasses. You can also add chunky jewelry, scarves, or even a nerf gun!
  9. Karen’s Halloween costume from Mean Girls or “a mouse, duh!” All you need are mouse ears, a black baby doll dress and silver/black boots! Add dangly earrings and a silver bow sash around the waist to completely replicate her look!
  10. A Mermaid – Another popular DIY costume that can get super creative! Wear a matching metallic skirt and tube top (I’ve seen people glue sequins and shells onto a bra as well!) and pair with strappy sandals and some sparkly jewelry. Curl your hair into beach waves and add a star fish clip for some extra fun!
