What a whirlwind year 2012 was!!  Full of ups and downs and all sorts of surprises, last year certainly kept us on our toes! Here’s an awesome video recap, if you’re already feeling nostalgic: 2012 Recap. There were binders full of women, the last Twinkie was manufactured, President Obama was re-elected, Gabby Douglass became a household name, and the entire world was introduced to Clint Eastwood’s infatuation with empty chairs. Last year also saw the end of Michael Phelps’ pro career; the death of Whitney Houston, the devastation caused by Super storm Sandy, and too many lives lost due to shooting sprees. While we could never forget what 2012 encompassed, it’s time to look forward to what 2013 will bring. Trends come and go, that’s why they’re trends; so with that being said it’s time to say au revoir to some that have overstayed their welcome and time to make room for some fresh, new, exciting ones. Here’s to sticking it to the Mayans and making it to a New Year!

There are some things on this list that I’m going to have a hard time parting with.  Sushi will forever hold a spot on my top 5 favorite foods list, some things are worth paying full price for, wayfarers are my stunna shades of choice, and no matter how obnoxious monogrammed accessories can be – if I wanted to know your initials, I would just StalkerNet you – they are pretty classic wardrobe pieces. Maybe we’re not entirely over some of the top trends of 2012, but we should at least attempt to keep an open mind about 2013, right? New Year’s resolution, perhaps?

XO and Happy New Year!

Sarah Dubow graduated from school in 2013 and is a Digital Strategist at Marina Maher Communications in New York City. After serving as Campus Correspondent at Bucknell University, she is so excited to continue being a part of the Her Campus team! Besides traversing the city and trying to figure out what being a "real person" really means, Sarah loves long walks on the beach, sipping pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain (kidding!). Real favorites include traveling, writing, kickboxing, and making up ridiculous lyrics to the latest songs. She absolutely loves anything that involves cupcakes, butterflies, glitter, and anything Parisian and specializes in baking with far too much chocolate and obsessively watching shows bound to be cancelled after the first season. Though the long term path for this post-grad collegiette remains unclear, she's looking forward to all the new 20-something adventures that await her!
