How to Wear Denim-on-Denim

Denim-on-denim outfits used to be thought of as a major fashion faux pas–think Brittany and Justin circa early 2000s.  But in the last few years, denim-on-denim outfits have become increasingly more acceptable, and rather trendy. From celebrities to fashion bloggers, denim-on-denim is one of the most popular trends of Summer 2018.

All-denim outfits may seem daunting, especially if you don’t know how to execute this trend correctly.  But if you follow these seven tips, you’ll be able to rock a denim-on-denim outfit just in time for summer.

  1. Wear two different colors of denim

Especially if this is your first time wearing denim-on-denim, you can always ease your way into it. Wear a blue denim jacket with black or white jeans.

  1. Make sure you don’t wear all the same wash

If you wear all the same wash, it will look too “matchy.”  Try wearing somewhat different washes of denim to give your denim-on-denim look more depth.

  1. Accessorize!

Even when wearing a denim-on-denim look, don’t be afraid to accessorize your outfit.  Wearing statement heels or a nice scarf draws lessens the focus on the denim.

  1. Add some color

Add a bit of color to your ordinarily blue look.  Wear a flannel or other colorful top to add contrast to your outfit.

  1. Look for over-the-top denim

Embellished denim, denim with embroidery, or distressed denim adds some extra style to your outfit.  Try pairing one over-the-top denim piece with a simpler piece of denim.

  1. Balance it out with a white top

If you’re looking for a simple denim-on-denim look, wear a white top. It’s minimal but keeps your outfit looking clean and sophisticated.

  1. Look for a two-piece set

Two-piece sets are super trendy at the moment.  If you want to wear something “matchy,” a matching denim set is the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe.

No matter how you decide to style it, all-denim outfits can be a stylish way to upgrade your wardrobe.
