5 Things You Should Know about Lori Loughlin and the College Admissions Scandal!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Unless you live under a rock, there is NO WAY you haven’t heard or guiltlessly indulged in the juicy drama of the recent college admissions scandal. For the past week, it has been the front-page story of multiple notabile magazines including People, US Magazine, and Forbes, and the buzz has yet to die down – especially for the Lori Loughlin and her family.

While most of us know her as Aunt Becky from Full House, actress Lori Loughlin has been under fire by the media, as she and 49 other people were indicted on March 12th for alleged involvement in the nationwide college admissions scandal. Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli were accused of paying $500,000 for guaranteed admission into the University of Southern California for their two daughters Olivia Jade, 19, and Bella, 20. Both of the daughters were apparently admitted as recruits for the USC women’s crew team, despite neither of them having any actual rowing experience. Both Loughlin and Giannulli were arrested, but managed to be released on a whopping $1,000,000 bail.

This is just a small sip of the tea that is being unquenchably downed by all of America right now, and I think we’d all be lying if we said we weren’t loving it…

So Here are 5 more things you should know about Lori Loughlin and the admission scandal!

1. Sorry When Calls the Heart Fans! – Hallmark has said goodbye to Lori Loughlin After Lori Loughlin was released on bail, Hallmark publicly stated that they will no longer be working with the actress. Crown Media, the parent company of Hallmark, recently said, “We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations. We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin, including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production”.

2. Big name beauty brands have dropped Olivia Jade Lori Loughlin’s youngest daughter, Olivia Jade, has made much success as a popular social media influencer and youtuber. However, since the allegations, multiple of the major brands that Olivia had business deals with have reportedly dropped her. The namely beauty brands of Sephora and Estee Lauder have both reported “they will no longer be working with Olivia Jade Giannulli”. Olivia also does business with Amazon, Dolce & Gabbana, Lulus, Marc Jacobs, and more, all of which have not yet confirmed whether or not they will continue working with her.

3. Neither of the Loughlin Daughters will be returning to USC It was also revealed to the public this week that neither Olivia Jade Giannulli or Bella Giannulli will be returning to the University of Southern California. Olivia was a freshman, while Bella was a sophomore. There is no word on whether or not the two will finish their schooling. Unfortunately, no one knows for sure if it was the University that took the action of removing the girls or the family themselves.

4. Netflix confirms that Aunt Becky will no longer appear in Fuller House Episodes While Hallmark let go of Lori Loughlin when the allegations were first released, Netflix’s stance on the situation remained in the balance for several days. However, it was confirmed this week that Lori Loughlin will no longer be in any more episodes of Fuller House. Sayonara Aunt Becky!

5. Parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli took photos of Olivia Jade and Bella on rowing machines Loughlin and Giannulli allegedly paid $500,000 to an athletic director at USC to “recruit” Olivia and Bella to the women’s crew team, which lead to their overall admission to the university. Despite being actual members of the crew teams, neither of the girls had any actual intent on rowing for the university or had any rowing experience. So, of course, what did the parents do? They took pictures of their daughters on the rowing machines to help cover-up their bribe… No surprise there.
