5 Steps to making it through Monday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Okay, we have all been there. The alarm clock starts blaring at 7:00am but somehow we manage to hit the snooze button seven….or eight times until its 7:45. We crawl out of bed, throw on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, and run to make our 8am class. Well these mornings may be a pretty routine way to start our week, but it doesn’t have to be! There are lots of simple ways to start your Monday off on the right foot!

1. Plan ahead

Instead of scrambling through Monday morning, take a few minutes Sunday night to get organize. Put your Monday notebooks and textbooks into your backpack. Look up the weather and decide what to wear, or check out the HC Bucknell Fashion Forecast for the week! This will save you a lot of time and indecisiveness in the morning. Taking the time the night before will help your Monday morning run smoothly and start your day off right!

2. Wear something happy

If you already feel groggy, dressing sloppy will only make you feel worse. However, choosing to wear your favorite scarf or sweater will make your day infinitely better. Putting on something that you love is the perfect pick me up for the Monday blues. And whether you realize it or not, others will take notice when you are wearing something you feel confident and comfortable in. Plus who doesn’t love a compliment on their way to class in the morning?

3. Musical motivation

Sometimes all you need is a song to set the tone for your day. Create a playlist that you can listen to while you are getting ready in the morning. Start off with something that is a little calmer for when you first get up. I recommend Ed Sheeran, Mumford & Sons, or Jack Johnson. Then bust out the more pump up songs before you leave your room. Throughout the day if you need a pick- me-up, listen to your playlist to help set you back on track. Start your Monday off with some fun and use it to keep you motivated all day long.

4. Make time for friends

Try to plan a lunch or dinner date with a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. Setting up some time to see others will give you something to look forward to throughout your day. Plus it will give you a probably much needed break from a busy Monday. Nothing beats a quick chat with a friend over frozen yogurt before heading to another class.

5. Accept that it is Monday

Sometimes the best way to get through Monday is simply to accept that it is Monday. Not every day is perfect and sometimes Mondays might seem like the worst day. However, trying to find a little positively in the beginning of your week can make a big difference. Although we might not ever come to love Mondays, accepting that they come and go is important. Try to enjoy moments throughout the day instead of focusing on the dreaded Monday as a whole.

So lets face it, Mondays are unavoidable! But with these easy steps we can get start our weeks in a happier and stress-free way. Mondays will always be around, so it is how we handle them that matters!
