20 Things People Forgot To Tell You About Bucknell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

  1. Residential colleges live in best dorms on campus.
  2. The dryers never fail to shrink your clothes down to a child’s size.
  3. You need a “fracket” – a jacket to wear to the frats on cold winter nights. It might disappear, so it should be cheap (and relatively ugly).
  4. They make better lattes at 7th Street Cafe than at the Library Café.
  5. Getting a package in the mail is like getting gold. It will make your week that much better, so encourage family and friends to send them.
  6. Go to the Terrace Room for lunch. The take-out salad option is awesome, and cheaper than the one in the Caf.
  7. Downtown houses are known by their nicknames.
  8. It rains all the time. Definitely invest in some rain boots!
  9. The gym is crazy between four and five in the afternoon. If want to use a treadmill or avoid socializing while you’re sweating, then go at a different time.
  10. When in doubt, go to Walmart. It’s open 24/7!
  11. Your mailbox will never open for you. It will most likely take two tries.
  12. They have the best oatmeal raisin cookies in the Caf.
  13.  There is a sauna and a hot tub in the Athletic Center.
  14. The Niche (located in the same building as the Craft Center and 7th Street Cafe) is a great place to study.
  15.  Everyone does laundry on Sundays, so try to do it on a different day.
  16.  You’ll wait in a long line for Thanksgiving dinner in the Caf, but it’s worth it.
  17.  Your BU ID is your life at Bucknell – don’t lose it.  They’re expensive to replace!
  18.  The Flying Bison can be your best friend at 3 a.m. on weekend nights. Fried mac n’ cheese is my favorite!
  19.  The Mini Marts Cafe in Marts Hall has 60-cent coffee… it’s a hidden gem.
  20. You won’t get work done on the first floor of the library – there are too many people around to socialize with!
Devin is a sophomore at Bucknell University. She is intending to be a Markets, Innovation and Design major in the School of Management, and is also pursuing a minor in Creative Writing. She can be found giving tours around campus, doing homework on the quad, or dancing in her apartment with her friends. Devin also writes for the HC Bucknell chapter, and loves all things Her Campus! Outside of school and HC, she enjoys playing sports, reading, singing, and trying new foods. In fact, her life motto is "eat dessert first." Devin is very excited to be the Management Intern at HC headquarters in Boston this summer!
Sarah Dubow graduated from school in 2013 and is a Digital Strategist at Marina Maher Communications in New York City. After serving as Campus Correspondent at Bucknell University, she is so excited to continue being a part of the Her Campus team! Besides traversing the city and trying to figure out what being a "real person" really means, Sarah loves long walks on the beach, sipping pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain (kidding!). Real favorites include traveling, writing, kickboxing, and making up ridiculous lyrics to the latest songs. She absolutely loves anything that involves cupcakes, butterflies, glitter, and anything Parisian and specializes in baking with far too much chocolate and obsessively watching shows bound to be cancelled after the first season. Though the long term path for this post-grad collegiette remains unclear, she's looking forward to all the new 20-something adventures that await her!
