1000 Awesome Things About Bucknell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.
Awesome Thing #9 –A cappella Groups!

How great would it be to have one of the Bucknell a cappella groups follow you around campus for the day? Kids from other schools may not get this dream of stalkers but that would only be because they do not fully understand the awesomeness of our school’s fully student-run groups.  From off-campus performances, like community service events, to on-campus shows, the a cappella groups never fail at entertaining a crowd. Attending one of these events can leave you feeling completely inspired. It may be from the incredible student-composed, original arrangements of your favorite songs. Or simply from seeing a group of people doing something they truly love. When the a cappella groups are on stage together bouncing in harmony, you can tell that at that moment, there’s no place else they’d rather be. It may sound a bit stoner, but singing for the sake of singing, for the love of bringing music to people, and joining voices together – that’s pretty awesome. It’s hard to pinpoint activities throughout our day that we do simply for their own sake. Example A: I’m going to write this paper because I want to pass this class. Seeing the a cappella groups perform is like a giant breath of fresh air. Not to mention they sing at times for truly great causes: Matt Mizuhara was telling me about how Beyond Unison participated in a Colleges Against Cancer Benefit Concert at Franklin and Marshall. Although it was not a competition, Beyond Unison was able to raise the most money out of the six a cappella groups there! Clearly there is off-campus agreement, Bucknell’s a cappella groups are simply the best.

Awesome Thing #10 – Thanksgiving in the Caf

With our limited on-campus dining areas, things can get a little bland. After a while, you are willing to drive an hour to Penn State’s campus because rumor has it, those lucky kids have a Chipotle. However, there is one day a year where Bucknell students will wait on ridiculously long lines to get into the Bostwick Cafeteria. There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit then celebrating a mini Thanksgiving before you go home for another one! Every food you have ever looked forward to in the Caf is there and it’s not even a tour day! We hear a lot of statements about Bucknell’s community such as “Join the herd”. Welp, now would be one of those times. The entire school is ready to come out and enjoy this meal together; I wouldn’t even be surprised to see some alums. Students have also infamously claimed this day to, let’s say borrow, extra pies and what not on their way out. If there’s a strange hush around campus Thursday night, it’ll probably be because the entire student body is sleeping off their food comas, or at karaoke requesting Adam Sandler’s Thanksgiving Song. Both seasonal, both awesome.
