Why You Should Get A Bunny

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Recently, my family adopted a bunny and he’s absolutely adorable. His name is Snoopy and he’s so fluffy and easy to take care of. After coming back to Boston, I already miss him! I wish my tiny apartment could fit him as well as my fat cat.

Bunnies are such adorable pets, and here’s why you should get one if you’re contemplating it.

Bunnies are easy to clean. Yes, they do poop and occasionally pee everywhere if you let them loose in your house. But, it’s really easy to clean up. Their poop is really small and easy to just sweep up. And if you don’t let them wander around the house, you can just keep them in their cage or own designated space with a designated pee/poo box. Although they really don’t care where they go…you don’t need to wash a bunny. Unlike dogs, you don’t need to give your bunny a bath, as they will clean themselves. I do have to warn you though: they do get “pee-butt” sometimes, so if you do want to hold them, you might want to wipe them.

Bunnies are easy to take care of. All bunnies do are snack and poop all day. They can be pretty energetic, running around and being curious if you let them out, but it’s not like you need to take them out for a walk or anything. They just kind of chill in their own place. You don’t need to take them out, give them baths, but you do need to give them food and clean up their cage every once in a while. In terms of maintenance, they’re honestly kind of like in-between cats and dogs.

Like humans, bunnies eat all the time. I relate to my bunny because I, too, snack all the time. It’s kind of funny how much they love to eat. My bunny always gets so excited when we give him Cheerios, carrots, or hay as a snack. They eat all the time, so you need to make sure they have hay with them in their cage 24/7 because they tear through it. It’s so funny and adorable.

Bunnies respect your space. Bunnies really just do their own thing. If you let them wander, they’ll go around to different little corners and hiding spots. Sometimes they’ll come to say hi to see what you’re up to, but usually, they tend to just hang out by themselves in their favorite spots.

And of course, bunnies are cute. Obviously, that’s my number one reason why you should get one. They’re so soft! And unlike cats, they don’t mind if you hold them or pet them for a long time. Although it takes a while for them to bond with you and get used to their new environment, they’re still sweet and won’t hurt you intentionally.

Having a bunny has been so much fun. They’re really such chill animals to take care of and are so adorable, you can’t help but want to hang out with them all day. So if you’re thinking about getting a bunny, I hope I helped convince you.
