What’s an RSS Feed?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Even when you spend all of your time on your laptop, scouring the Internet for the newest information, you’re sure to miss some things. You swear by getting your information from Buzzfeed or Mashable and love to know about the latest trends.  What you need is an RSS feed. But what do they do?

An RSS feed (or Rich Site Summary) lets you follow sites and sources that interest you, and allows you to have all of that information in one centrally located, easy to browse location. Interested in technology, food, or fashion? Your RSS feed is completely customizable allowing you to get the latest news on what’s interesting to you.

Do you have to write a blog for class or work? Do you need exciting content for your social media channels? RSS feeds are a great source of inspiration or links that you can include.

I recommend using Feedly as a user friendly RSS feed site. You just type into the search box the types of thing you are interested in, and Feedly recommends which sources to follow. Impress all of your friends by being ahead of the curve and knowledgeable about the newest developments. Happy reading!
