1)Â How did you first get involved with water polo, and how long have you been playing?
Â
Before coming to college I swam competitively. At Splash I was looking for a club swim team, and came across the water polo team. I figured that I would be good at water polo seeing as I had been a swimmer for so long. After the first practice, I knew that my assumptions were very wrong.

2) What is water polo like here at BU – how often do you guys practice?
Â
The Boston University Women’s Water Polo team is a very competitive club team. We have our own coaches, and we practice four times a week. Our season is in the spring semester, so we spend the fall semester conditioning and teaching new players the game.
Â
3)Â Do you guys have any upcoming meets? What does a typical season look like for your team?
Â
We’ve actually got a tournament this weekend! We were invited to compete in the Philly Shoot-Out. Most tournaments are weekend long tournaments with two games each day. We compete in a league with BC, Williams College, Yale, Coast Guard, and Dartmouth.
Â
4)Â What is your favorite part about playing water polo?
Â
I love being part of the team. Swimming was much more of an individual sport, but water polo is much more of a team sport. We’ve got great team chemistry, which is important for long van rides to our tournaments. The team spends a lot of time together outside of the pool as well, which I think is important.
Â
5)Â Where did your interest in water polo come from? Is there anyone person/thing that inspires you?
Â
I’m really inspired by my teammates and everything that we have accomplished. The more experienced players are terrific teachers to the newer players like myself. I admire the team’s dedication and commitment. Additionally, we have fantastic coaches. While we may not enjoy all of the conditioning during the fall, we see the benefits in the spring. They’re great at explaining the game, and keeping the team motivated.
